John B. Coyhis was also known as John R. Coyhis he died at Petersburg, VA on April 20, 1865. He was from Brothertown, Calumet Co., WI. He left behind several children. His wife, Sophia Elizaheth Sampson preceeded him in death. She died while giving birth to their last child, who survived.

Born in 1937 in Prussia, emigrated to US in 1852. Settled in Gillett, Wisconsin. Married to Johanna Deadrich in 1852 in Milwaukee. Died in 1910.

This veteran does not seem to have any family in our area and my daughter had 'adopted' his grave. She pulls the weeds, leaves flowers etc..........just wanting to find out more about him.

My great, great grandfather enlisted as a Private on 16 August 1864. He was promoted to Full Principal Musician on 27 April 1865 and mustered out on 2 Jun 1865. I believe he was a bugler.
