25th Wisconsin Infantry

Conrad Oertli was born on July 1, 1842 in Zürich, Switzerland and came to the United States with his parents in 1853. Along with his friend, William Linse, he enlisted in Company G, Wisconsin 25th Infantry Regiment on August 22, 1862 at Camp Salomon, La Crosse, La Crosse county, Wisconsin. He mustered out of Company G, Wisconsin 25th Infantry Regiment on June 7, 1865, at Crystal Springs, Prince George's county, Maryland. On December 3, 1869, Conrad Oertli married his friend William's sister, Laura Luise Henrietta Linse. He and his wife eventually moved to Yakima, Yakima county, Washington where his wife died in 1920. He was subsequently remarried to Wilhelmina Balmeier and moved to Orange county, California where he died at Santa Ana on March 29, 1924. He is buried at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima, Washington.

Pvt. Charles Wesley Delap is my great great grandfather on my fathers side.He left for war with five children at home.He took sick in Helena Ark.Sent home and died.On his stone it says , My warfare has ended I have gone home.

Harmon was my 2nd Great Grandfather.

Joseph was transferred to the 12th WI Co I on June 2, 1865 and mo on July 16, 1865. He was also sent out on Assignments with the guard unit on occasion, protecting bridges etc...

Perry Heath (Heth) enlisted 29 July 1862 at Sparta, Wisconsin and was discharged 7 June 1865. Discharge and pension papers on file. His son, William Heath (Heth) age 17, was in the 17th Wisconsin and was declared MIA on 8 March 1865 while on provisional duty with the 15th Connecticut at Wyse Fork (Second Battle of Kinston NC). Young Heath reportedly died on 9 May 1865.

William Linse was born Heinrich Wilhelm August Linse on February 9, 1844 in Walschleben, Sömmerda District, Thüringen, Germany and came to the United States with his family in 1848. Along with his friend, Conrad Oertli, he enlisted in Company G, Wisconsin 25th Infantry Regiment on August 22, 1862 at Camp Salomon, La Crosse, La Crosse county, Wisconsin. He was wounded in the arm and chest by a musket ball on March 21, 1865 at the Battle of Bentonville near Goldsboro, Wayne county, North Carolina. He mustered out of Company G, Wisconsin 25th Infantry Regiment on June 7, 1865, at Crystal Springs, Prince George's county, Maryland. On December 13, 1866, William Linse married his friend Conrad's sister, Elizabeth Oertli. In 1897, he moved with his wife and family to Yakima, Yakima county, Washington where he died on May 15, 1923 at age 79. He is buried at Tahoma Cemetery.

Great-grandfather Jacob Bauman changed to Bowman while in service. Know nothing of Company K of the 25th Wisconsin Infantry.

He died later of Dysentry in Helena,Arkansas.

1828 to 1904 Enlisted 23 September, 1864, mustered out 7 June, 1865 lived in Crawford County, Wisconsin after the war. Died in Miner County, South Dakota in 1904

Peter or Peder Knutson was my great grandmothers brother. Peters full name was Peter Knutson Brye but, when he served during the civil war he was listed as Peter Knutson. Knutson May also have been spelled Knutson. I do know he was killed at Rivers Bridge along the Saulkahatchee River in South Carolina. He was exhumed some time after the war and his remains were interned at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort SC. The problem is, he is in a grave marked unknown. Reports state he was decapitated by a cannon shell on February 2, 1865. We think he is in Section 49, Grave number 8743. The tombstone says unknown and has two others in the same grave. We are looking for a picture of him and more history on Company K, 25th Wisconsin Infantry. Please help. Thank you.
