Mathias Ganzer - Corporal |
He enlisted on the 13th of August, 1862 at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He was a cooper by occupation and a former 4th Sergeant in the Oshkosh Riflemen (Deutsche Militair Compagnie), as well as, a member of the Germania Fire Company No. 2 (Deutsche Feuer Compagnie).
On the 20th of April, 1863, he was transferred to the Convalescent Camp at Murfreeboro, Tennessee suffering from rheumatic fever, and later to Company 'B', 17th Regiment of Veteran Reserve Corps on the 5th of August, 1863. He was mustered-out with a detachment at Indianapolis on the 30th of June, 1865.
Mathias came to Oshkosh with his wife and children in 1854, after leaving their home in Hambuhl, Neustadt an der Aisch, Bayern where he had been married on the 19th of March, 1850.

Charles Herb - Private |
Charles Herb was wounded and captured at Chickamauga on September 20, 1863 along with Col. Hobart and Company D comrades Egbert Scott, Curtis Mitchell, Mead Seaman, Henry Knowles, Samuel Turney, Eleanor Gilbert, Alfred Abbot and Almiran Kling. Separated from the others for a time because of wounds to his leg and face, he was reunited with them again at Andersonville Prison, noting in his pension papers that Scott, Seaman, Abbott, Knowles and Turney died there. Charles spent 17 months and 5 days as a POW.

Mead Hobby Seaman - Sergeant |
Mead Hobby Seaman enlisted on August 11, 1862 at Appleton, Wisconsin. He participated in the battles of Chaplin Hills, Stone River and was captured at the battle of Chickamauga in 1863. He was taken to Libby Prison, later transferred to Danville Prison in Virignia and then transferred to Andersonville in January of 1864 where he died September 2, 1864. He left behind his wife, Mary Viola Brown and his daughter Lottie who was nine months old when he enlisted.

Lewis N. Bell grew up in Neenah, WI. He signed up for the WI 21st infanty Co. I Aug. 1862. He mustered out at Oshkosh on Sept. 5, 1862. He fought in the battle of Perryville, where he was wounded in the leg. He was involved in several other skirmishes on the way to Resaca, GA. He was killed on the field in the battle at Resaca. His body is burried at Chattanooga National Cemetary.
