Lewis was the oldest of four brothers, who all served in the Civil War. Mons in MN 2nd, Company I, Christian and John, both in the MN 8th, Company D. In addition, 2 half-brothers also served, Elling Trulson Thompson [discharge ill and unable to serve under the name Male in Wisconsin] and his brother, Hermund Trulson Thompson [drafted, Wisconsin]. All six sons of Truls Hermundson Mael served in the Civil War.

His brother Ezra R. Lisk served in the 1st WI Heavy Artillery. Married Susan Elizabeth Thoman on 29 Dec 1870 in Crestline, Crawford Co., Ohio. Practiced medicine in Lone Tree/Central City, Merrick Co., Nebraska (where he moved in 1868, and was elected Justice of the Peace in 1870) and Marion Co., Florida (licensed in 1885). Five children (only Percy had issue)- Edna Pearl Lisk Gibson; Phillip Clyde Lisk; Baby Boy Lisk; Dr. Percy Franklin Lisk, MD; Dr. Henrietta Lisk, D.Sc. Civil War pension filed under certificate # 722891.
