Wounded at Cloyds Mountain, Captured and sent to Andersonville POW camp on 6/18/1864. Released on 11/12/64, assigned to Hospital Div 1 on 12/1/1864. Returned to duty on 3/7/1865 and discharged in Cumberland Maryland on 6/27/1865. Died 9/21/1910 in Oakland, MD

Civil War record: Pvt. Co G 14th Reg VA Inf-muster in Sept 13, 1862 at Ellenboro, VA for 3 years. From Ritchie Co, Clay District.
From the 1890 'Special Schedule - Surviving Soldiers, Sailors and Marines and Widows' for the Civil War, in WV, Hiram is showing as having incurred 'throat disease' as disability; also shows date of enlistment as 2 Aug 1862 and date of discharge as 15 Nov 1863.
Three of his sons also served: Mansfield H Dotson - Co. D, 6 Reg., VA (WV) Inf. Mustered in 20 Aug 1861 at Cairo reinlisted 26 Feb 1864 Clarksburg, VA Mustered out 10 Jun 1865 at Wheeling, WV.
Spencer Dotson - Company B, 4th WV Volunteer Cavalry.
Perry Dotson - Was a Union soldier; was imprisoned for months, and was not recognized by his family when he finally returned.
