Son of Henry Chilton (b. 04/26/1782 in Maryland) and Nancy Ellis (b. 1787 in Westmoreland Co. Virginia). Henry Harrison Chilton was born abt. 1815 and died 07/19/1890 in Bedford Co. Virginia of Cancer. Married Mary Ann Marsh January 28, 1839 in Bedford Co., Virginia. They had 6 children together. He was a farmer.

James Thomas Chilton - Private
|
Born 1817 in Bedford Co., Virginia to Henry Chilton (b. 04/26/1782) and Nancy Ellis (b. 1787). Married twice with a dozen or so children. Applied for exemption from military service (from 91st Reg. VA Militia- Cpt. Tankersley Co.), stating 'I am permanently diseased and unfit for duty.' Daniel P. Jones signed the petition, stating that 'I have known J.T. Chilton for a good many years and that for the last five or six years he has been affected with disease of the spine, connected with Rheumatism, which renders him unfit to undergo the exposure and hardships incident to camp life and that in consequence of his being diseased, he has done but little labor on his farm since he was afflicted.' CSA enlisted 18 Mar 1864 as Private, Co. I 2 Batt VA Inf. under Co. Duke and Capt. Henry Campbell (his grave marker says: Co. I 2nd VA Res. Cal. CSA) Chilton family cemetary was on his land in Thaxton, VA; is located on Rt. 684, 0.6mi. north of 831, on north side of road in a field; there are 5 marked graves & about 25 unmarked graves. 1845-named Administrator for father Henry H. Chilton's estate.
