|
Enlisted 3/4/62 at Washington Pt. Norfolk Co in the Border Rifles as a Private at age 28; served in Co. E. 7th Bn. VA Company transfered 8/8/62 as Co. E, 61st VA. Served in many important battles including Gettysburg, Hagerstown, Wilderness, Shady Grove, Spottsylvania, Hanover C. H., Cold Harbor Frazier's Farm, Wilcox Farm, Ream's Station, The Crater, Hatcher's Run, Bristol Station, and Salem Church. He was only slightly wounded. Discharged and Paroled as Corporal 9 April 1965 at Appomattox, VA . Died 25 Dec. 1914. Buried at family Cemetery near Balahack Rd. and US168, Chesapeake, VA . Member of Stonewall camp of Confederate Veterans at Portsmouth, VA 1901-1914.

I have two direct descendants who served. Thomas W. Hodges enlisted CSA 08 Aug 1861 at Oak Grove, Norfolk County, VA He was a Private for one year in Company E of the 61st Regiment, Virginia Infantry. His Captain was John W. M. Hopkins. Surrendered at Appomattox (Records 08MAY1964 -VA State Library, Richmond, VA. He was MIA from our ancestral search efforts for some time - so I am happy to report he made this roll call. Any info on his regiment, will be greatly appreciated.

My great great grandfather letters to his wife during the war have been published by my great uncle. It was a great read and something I am very proud of. William Baugh enlisted in 1861 in Sussex Co. and surrendered at the end of the war. He lived until 1910
