my great grandfather, born on 2/1/1817, was 44 years old when he joined the company. Lived until 1905 when he was 88 years old. His son, my grandfather build dams on the Ohio River and later owned a rock quarry in Southern Illinois. My grandfather sang ' I am a Rebel soldier' song to me and my brother and sister when we visited him as children in the 1950's and told us his father sang the song to him for years.

Joseph Samuel Mason, born Nov. 1, 1847, served in the Confederate Army as a member of Col. Henry's brigade on guard duty near Richmond from November, 1864, until the surrender of General Lee, in April 1865. He went into the mercantile buisness for himself and gave the post-office its name of Villa. He was appointed assistant postmaster under the administration of President Grant and his daughter served as postmistress until her death.

Co.F 36th Regiment Virginia Infantry (2nd Kanawha Infantry)

Co. F 36th Regiment Virginia Infantry(2nd Kanawha Infantry) saw action in the battles of Cross-Lanes, Carnifax Ferry, Fort Donalson, Cloyd's Mountain, Piedmont, Waynesborough.

On the Muster Roll he was present from June 15,1862 thru December of 1862.
and in December of 1862 thru to February of 1863 he was on a detached service.and sent to Montgomery County,Va.

From March of 1863 April 1863 he was present according to the Muster Roll.
From May of 1863 to end of June 1863 he was detailed to wagons.
From July of 1863 to the end of April of 1864 he was detailed to teamsters.
From May of 1864 to November of 1864 he was sent to Montgomery County Virginia..for sickness...according to the muster roll.

But according to the Muster Roll on December 14, 1864 he was captured in Sullivan County, Tennessee. (Prisoner Of War) and sent to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

And Surrender in the limits of the Department of W.Virginia for the month of April 1, 1865.

And then took oath on this date of April 1,1865..

He served with Company H, 36th Virginia Infantry listed in Giles County Virginia in the Civil War where he made gunpowder. He is listed in the 1860 Giles County census beside John B. Miller, who was known to make gunpowder, adding credence to the story passed to W.H.C.'s descendants. He is buried in a small family cemetery in Clover Hollow where his gravestone is illegible and sunken in the ground.

Born 04/06/1832 in Bedford Co. Virginia to Jabez Leftwich (b. 1792 in Bedford Co. Virginia) and Martha 'Patsy' Jones Early (b. 1794 in Giles Co. Virginia). Tubal was 5' 11' tall, with blue eyes and dark hair. He married Louisa Mae Snodgrass (b. 11/05/1840 in Giles Co. Virginia) on 05/15/1877 in Giles Co. Virginia. They had three children. Tubal was a 1st Lieutenant in the Thirty-sixth Virginia Infantry, Company H, Confederate Army, during the entire period of the Civil war. He took part in many engagements, including the second battle of Manassas and that of Winchester and was wounded three times. He died 10/31/1902 in Madison, Boone Co. West Virginia and was buried in Stallings Cemetery, Boone Co. West Virginia. ----- Film Number M382 roll 33
