Charles Lee Bailiss - Unknown
|
The only information I have to document his service is his obit. which appeared in the Columbia, Tenn. newspaper at his death in 1918. It states thet he served in the 17th Va. and later with Col. John Mosby. He is the 'mystery man ' of the family. Charles Bailiss was from Alexandria, Va. and is buried at Culleoka, Tenn.(Maury Co.)On his death bed as told to me by a granddaughter( not my grandmother), he stated that he was in Ford's Theater when Lincoln was shot by Booth. He had a son named Scott Booth Bailiss. I asked my grandmother about him on 2 occasions and her reply was 'some things are better left alone'.

John Francis Sedwick - Corporal
|
In records found on Fold3, it appears on one roll, that Sedwick was promoted to 4th Sergeant, however on the roll next to it he was back to Corporal. I conclude it was just a temporary position if the original had been ill.
Husband of Annie Caroline Allen and Laura Bell Helm. Father of Edna Lee Sedwick, John Francis Sedwick, Jr., William A. Sedwick, Cora B. Sedwick Westbrook, Walter P. Sedwick, Lucy V. Sedwick, Arthur B. Sedwick, and Horace H. Sedwick.
Cpl of Company K, 17th Virginia Infantry Regiment, Army of Northern Virginia. Captured at Five Forks, VA April 1, 1865. Sent to Point Lookout, Maryland. Was released in June of 1865.
Would appreciate to get in touch with some other relatives of John and if anyone has any extra information, contact me!
