9th Virginia Infantry

Brigadier General took command of the Armistead Brigade after General Armistead was killed at Gettysburg. Later he commanded 1st Brigade in the 2nd Corp (Stonewall's Brigade), until his capture at Sayler's Creek. He is buried in the Confederate Memorial Cemetary in Fredricksburg VA.

Absent/sick on 08 May 1862 (on Surgeon''s Certificate). Transferred from Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment Virginia to Salem Flying Light Artillery Regiment Virginia on 08 May 1862. Returned on 18 July 1863. Transferred from Salem Flying Light Artillery Regiment Virginia to Company C, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Virginia on 17 September 1863. Hospitalized on 04 June 1864 at Richmond, VA with dysentery. Returned on 15 June 1864. Absent/leave on 12 February 1865 at Salem, VA. Enlisted Craney Island, Norfolk, Va. Apr. 11, 1862. Sent to Petersburg from Chimborazo Mar. 25, 1865.

Archer D. Wooldridge was from Chesterfield County, Virginia. He enlisted in Co. C, 9th. Virginia Infantry. He was paroled April 21, 1865 at Burkeville Station, Va. He is not my direct kin, his later Wooldridges were joined by marriage.

Wounded at Pickett's Charge. Kept his right hand attached in spite of the injury. Captured and sent to Ft. Delaware POW camp. After the war, was a carpenter and ran an orphanage. Helped to build 1st Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, VA. Buried in Portsmouth. My great-granddaddy

Captured at Gettysburg 3 July 1863 sent to Fort Delaware then transferred to Point Lookout Prison in Maryland on 14 March 1865. He survived Point Lookout to return to Portsmouth, Va.

I am not a relative but was researching a cemetery and came across a grave stone for AB Clay 9 VA Company E- CSA 1847-1913. It is located at the corner of Genito and Old Hundred Road at an old Baptist Cemetary in Midlothian VA 23112

David Francis Wells was a Hargrave Blue from Dinwiddie, VA. He enlisted June 11, 1861 in Petersburg, VA under Captain Arthur M. Goodwyn. Enlisted for 12 months service. Reinlisted Aprl 30, 1862 for 3 years. Admitted to Wayside Hospital/General Hospital No. 9 in Richmond, VA on Dec 9th 1863. Transferred to Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond Dec 12, 1863 for pneumonia. Treated at CSA General Hospital in Danville, VA for Catarrhus Feb 29, 1864. Returned to duty March 15, 1864. August 23, 1864, admitted to CSA General Hospital, Danville, VA for chronic ulcer of the leg. Returned to duty Sept. 20, 1864. Arrives at City Point, VA (presently Hopewell, VA) on April 5, 1865 after being captured at the Battle of Five Forks on April 2, 1865. Released June 22, 1865 after signing (with an 'X') the Oath of Allegiance to the United States from Point Lookout, MD. Resident of Dinwiddie Co., VA. Complexion fair; hair light; eye blue; height 5 ft 8 in.
