Seth Maxwell Barton - General

Brigadier General took command of the Armistead Brigade after General Armistead was killed at Gettysburg. Later he commanded 1st Brigade in the 2nd Corp (Stonewall's Brigade), until his capture at Sayler's Creek. He is buried in the Confederate Memorial Cemetary in Fredricksburg VA.

August 23, 1864, admitted to CSA General Hospital, Danville, VA for chronic ulcer of the leg. Returned to duty Sept. 20, 1864. Arrives at City Point, VA (presently Hopewell, VA) on April 5, 1865 after being captured at the Battle of Five Forks on April 2, 1865. Released June 22, 1865 after signing (with an 'X') the Oath of Allegiance to the United States from Point Lookout, MD. Resident of Dinwiddie Co., VA. Complexion fair; hair light; eye blue; height 5 ft 8 in.
