May see rank as being a Captain, however, his muster roll for the duration of the Civil War states 2nd Lieutenant. He did participate in the Indian Wars and may have achieved rank of Captain during that. Would appreciate any extra information on him.

J.L. Halbert''s Company, Speight''s Regiment of the 15th Texas Infantry. His last Muster Roll date is for May & June 1863 and I have not been able to determine what became of him.

William was born 13 July 1823 in Montgomery County NC. He enlisted 29 March 1862 at Bosqueville by J. E. Harrison in Capt. Cooks Co. Speight's Regt. Texas Infantry. This became Co K Speights Regt on 1 May 1862. He enlisted as a Pvt. and was elected Jr 2nd Liuet. 14 May and then to full 2nd Lieut. He was assigned to 1st Brigade, Maxey's Division, Army of Trans-Miss. Dept. He died in the Field at Little Rock, Pulaski Co Ark on 3 Jan 1863. There are 9 cards in his archival file We are related by marriage.
