Edward has two CMR's in his archival file He was 28 in 1860 living in Kaufman Co. Trxas. Other than his unit cover card there is a Bounty Pay & Receipt Roll card. He was paid enlistment bounty of $50. on 25 June 1862. Roll signed at Camp Stonewall Jackson at Dallas Texas. This Regt. was known as [Burford's] It operated in the Trans-Miss. Department operating as Scouts and Raiders. Fought at Vicksburg. Its last major action was at Yellow Bayou on 18 May 1864. Afterwards operated in the Red River area. He was the Father in Law of my 2nd cousin 3 x removed.

Charles D. Garrett was born 1843 in Tennessee. Son of Presley Garrett and Katherine Elizabeth Littlejohn Garrett. On June 1, 1861, at age 18, Charles Garrett joined the state militia in Kaufman County, Texas, as a Private. This group of 92 Texas State Troops were called the Kaufman Guards No. 1, Cavalry Company, Kaufman County, under Captain H. W. Kyser. On July 6, 1861, his second muster was with the Trinity Guards Cavalry Company as 4th Sargeant, Precinct No. 7, Kaufman County, 13th Brigade, under Captain Obed Vanpool. On September 2, 1863, he mustered into the 19th Texas Cavalry, Company G, with his older brother, William Charles Garrett, serving until March 15, 1864, when he once again mustered into the Texas State Troops, Mounted Company H, 1st Regiment, 2nd Brigade, under Captain A. J. Hardin, and he was stationed at Camp Darnell in Dallas until his final discharge. The Texas State Troops later became the Texas Rangers. Charles was killed in Scurry, Kaufman County, Texas, in 1865. He left behind a wife, two sons and a daughter.
