HIS BROTHER WAS R.F.STRIBLING, WHO WAS ALSO IN THE CSA IN THE 14th (NEELY'S) TENNESSEE CAVALRY REGIMENT. R.F STRIBLING WAS MY 3RD GREAT GRANDFATHER, AND HE DIED BEFORE 1870 AS A RESULT OF THE WAR. HE NEVER COMPLETELY RECOVERED FROM SICKNESS IN THE WAR. HE TRAVELED TO DRIER, WARMER PLACES TO TRY TO GET HIS LUNGS WELL, BUT NEVER DID.

Would like any and all information on this man.
He was from Dyer County TN (Dyersburg, TN). He was the son of John S.and Martha McGinnis -- his brother John M McGinnis entered into the 4th TN infantry (place name in search).
He entered as a private and a musician, Co. D, 33rd Tennessee Infantry -- enlisting on 12 Sep 1861.
During war he was captured twice: The Union records of prisoners of war show him captured at Stones River, Feb 10, 186? -- confined at Camp Morton, Indiana and exchanged at City Point, Viriginia, on April 12 1863.
But, other records of Camp Morton show him captured at Murfeesboro, Tennessee on 5 January 1863 and sent to City Point, Virginia for exchange on 6 April 1863.
According to the War Department, he was on the muster rolls for at least March and April 1864. That is the last roll on file.
After the war James went to Columbia, LA -- where he became a superintendent of Public Education and later Mayor of Columbia.
He died 10 May, 1889 in Columbia, LA and buried in Dyersburg, TN.

He first married Elizabeth Horton on 24 Apr 1844 in Weakley Co., TN. (She's my 3x great grandmother). They had 2 daughters - Mary Alice Frances 'Fanny' and Margaret.
He married second wife, Mary M. George on 8 May 1856 in Fulton Co., KY. They had 2 sons - William and Samuel.

J. W. Cathey, (James White Cathey), private Company E, 33 Regiment Tennessee Infantry. He was severely wounded at Mufreesboro, Tenn., Dec. 31, 1862 (Battle of Stones River or Second Battle of Murfreesboro) and also wounded at the Battle of Resaca, May 14, 1864. He was a patient at Ladies Hospital, Montgomery Alabama on Nov.,15,1864 and retired to Invalid Corps, Provisional Army Confederate States Nov. 19, 1864. He was admitted to Way Hospital, Meridian, Miss., on Jan. 18, and again on March 17, 1865 because of wounds.
He was living in Obion Co. when he enlisted in October 1861 near Union City, Tennessee. Several months after enlisting he fought in the battles at Shiloh and Perryville before being wounded at Murfreesboro. After recovering, he fought at the battles of Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge before being woulded again at Resaca at the begining of the Atlanta campaign. He moved to Texas about 1876 with his family and then to Oklahoma where he died near Oklahoma City in 1899.

W.R. Burnham enlisted in the 33rd TN. Infantry Co. I at Union City, TN. in 1861. He was 29 years old. He enlisted as a private. He participated in all the battles the 33rd was engaged until the unit surrendered in N.C. in 1865. By the end of the war he had been promoted to 2nd Lt. He returned to West TN. after the war and settled in Lauderdale Co. He married and had twin sons. He was my Gr., Gr,. Gr. Grandfather.
