My great-great grandfather. Taken prisoner at Fort Donelson on Feb. 16, 1862. Transported to Camp Butler, Illinois, where he died of disease on May 24, 1862. Left his widow, Ruthy Dias Rankin, with three sons, the youngest having been born two weeks before James was taken prisoner.
