I do not have a complete overview of his service at this time. Enlisted 24 Dec. 1861 at Mill Springs Kentucky. First into 2nd Regt. Tennessee Mountain Vol's. This became the 28th Regiment Tenn. Infantry. He was in the battle of Shiloh. His record say he was released from service at Corinth Miss. 19 May 1862. Reason not known at this time.

Personal note. In the 1950's Lt Draper's foot officers sword was loaned to a TN Polytechnic Institute, Cookeville,TN now Tennessee Technology University teacher and was not returned. Jesse Was born 19 Feb 1844 at Turkey Creek, Smith Co. Tenn. The 1860 census places him age 15 in Macon Co. Tenn. the PO is at Lafayette. He has 9 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 21 Oct 1862 at Red Springs. He fought at Shiloh with Statman's Brigade, Breckenridge's Reserve Corps. Chickamauga with Wrights Brigade, Cheatham's Division covering the right-wing Brigade [Polk] Army of Tenn. He was wounded in the Atlanta Campaign at the battle of Peach Tree Creek, Ga. and was medically discharged. He died 22 Nov 1892 and is buried at the West family West Family Cem. at Lafayette, Macon Co. Tenn. His wife was Susan Frances Huddleston b. 27 Jan 1846 d. 7 Oct 1928.

Adam L. Palk was my great great grandfather from Jackson County, Tennessee. He enlisted in the 28th Tennessee Infantry (CSA) - Company G - under command of Col. J.P. Murray - Camp Trousdale in October 1861. He was stricken with typhoid fever while on the campaign of Gen. Zolicoffer in Mill Springs, KY. He spent time at a hospital in Atlanta. He was left without use of his right leg & hip. Was eventually furloughed.

Ed Brady's brother. Also too sick to keep up on Bragg's retreat to Chattanooga in July 1863. Listed as a deserter. Gave his parole in Sparta, Tenn. in March 1864, after a Union raid of White County rounded up all the men and boys during the last two weeks of Feb and the first two weeks of March 1864. The raid was an attempt to capture Champ Ferguson, and many Confederates in uniform were simply executed where they were captured.

Creed enlisted 24 Dec 1861 at Mill Springs in Capt. Claiborn W. West's Co. for 12 months. Enlisted by Col. John P Murray. Creed has only two cards in the Archives. He is in the 2nd Mountain Reg't Tennessee Vol's which was consolidated with the 84th Tenn Infantry to form the 28th Tenn Consolidated, on 8 March 1863. His name appears on a roll of discharged soldiers dated 1 Nov. 1862. It is unknown if this discharge is because of disability or part of the reorganization or consolidation of units. He was in the fight at Shiloh with Statham's Brigade and at Chickamauga in Wright's Brigade Chatham's Division on the right wing of Polk's army of Tennessee. He died 11 May 1882. He was my 2nd cousin 5 x removed.

Samuel Fowler emigrated to Texas after serving with the 28th Tennessee Infantry Regiment during the War of the Rebellion and settled in Wilbarger County near the Red River where he farmed and served as postmaster in Vernon, Texas for many years. He was a notable enough individual to have a citation in Volume 3 'History Of Texas And Texans' published in 1914.

My GGGrandfather.
I have his enlistment papers at Camp Zollicoffer Men from Jackson County Tennessee. He servived all the engagements and moved to Bell County Texas in about 1880-82 where he passed away.

William was born 30 Oct 1839 in White County, Tennessee. He enlisted 7 Sept. 1861 at Camp Zollicoffer by J. W. McHenry for two years or the war. The 28th Consolidated Infantry Regiment was formed in March of 1863 by combining the 20th and 84th Inf. He has 17 cards in his archival file. He was captured at Carthage, Smith County Tenn. on 8 Dec 1864 and sent to Camp Chase. He was released on 4 Jan 1865 after swallowing the yellow dog.

He died at Red Boiling Springs, Macon Co. Tennessee on 5 May 1911 and is buried at Whitley Cemetry in that place. We are distantly related by a marriage.
