Thomas Jefferson Moss - Sergeant
|
On April 27, 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army. Served as a volunteer in Company A, Eleventh Tennessee Regiment, W.L. White, Captain; G.W. Gordon's Brigade, Cheatham's Division, Polk's Corps, Joseph W. Johnston's Army, where he was promoted to Sergeant. He also served as a musician in Company K, 2nd (Consolidated) Tennessee Infantry of which the 11TH Tennessee Infantry became a part about April 9, 1865 by consolidation.
He was paroled at Greensboro, near Jonesboro, NC, either May 1, or May 26, 1865, after serving four years. One year as a drummer in the military band, but he bore arms the other three years of the war. Besides participating in other hard-fought battles and skirmishes, he was at Chickamauga, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge, Franklin, and the siege of Chattanooga. He was neither wounded nor captured during the war.

Darius N Rawley - Sergeant
|
Darius was the 10th of the 11 chilsren of Daniel and Mary Hughes Rawley, born 1838 in Smith County, TN, and as a young adult moved to Nashville where he joined older brother James in business (Rawley and Brother Dry Goods on Market St.). He enlisted as a Corporal 10 May 1861. The 11th participated in the campaigns of the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, endured Hood's winter operations, and fought in North Carolina. He was promoted to Sgt. in the summer of '63. He was taken prisoner at Jonesboro in the Atlanta campaign and sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago 4 Sept 1864. He took the oath 31 Jan 1865 and was released from prison. He was 5' 8 1/2', with brown hair, hazel eyes, and fair complexion. He returned to Nashville where he died 17 Sept 1866, cholera taking the life the enemy could not. He is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Daniel enlisted in 1861 in Hickman, Tennessee where many of the men of the 11th. Co. H (Hickman Guards) were from. He also had three other brothers that served, Capt. Field Montgomery 14th. Louisiana Infantry, Lt. Robert Montgomery 8th. Louisiana Infantry and Pvt. John Montgomery 12th Missouri Cavalry. The Eleventh participated at Chickamauga, Murfreesboro, Missionary Ridge. In the Atlanta Campaign the Eleventh was present at the battles of Resaca, Calhoun, New Hope Church, Dead Angle, Kenesaw, Peach Tree Creek, Suger Creek, Franklin, Nashville and Bentonville. In the battle of Jonesboro, Daniel was killed and buried in the field later reinterred to the Pat Cleburne Cemetery in Jonesboro, Georgia. Anyone who has any info on the 11th. Co. Alexander Hamilton Bell - 4th Sergeant
|
Alexander H. Bell was the grandson of Ironmaster Montgomery Bell. He was captured in Georgia and was sent to a Federal Prison in Fort Morton, Indiana. His slave, Charley Bell served with him in the 11th Tennessee and remained with the unit until it was disbanded. He survived the war and is buried in the Bell family cemetery which is near The Narrows of the Harpeth River.
