Mastin enlisted as A Pvt. at 27 years old on 20 May 1861 at Paris, Henry Co. Tenn. Enrolled by Col. W.E. Travis in Capt. Josiah H Porters Co. 5th Regiment Tenn. Vol's. He mustered in at Camp Brown Tenn on 9 August 1861. On 4 Sept. 1861 he was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieut. with 1st Co. F 5th Regt. Tenn Vol's. He was discharged on 6 May 1862. His records do not give the circumstances. He applied for admission to the Tenn. Confederate Old Soliders home in 1906. End of documentation.

William Fletcher Etheridge - 2nd Sergeant   
My Husband's Great Grandfather William Fletcher Etheridge born; 5/16/1839 - 2nd Sgt, CSA (2d) Company G ,enlisted in the confederate Tenn. infantry on May 20,1861 age 22 , the day the 5th regiment of the Tenn. infantry was organized for state service. Fletcher mustered into Capt. John H. Longis Company, 5th regiment TN. Volunteers at Camp Brown in Obion County Tenn. as a private on August 9th 1861. On May 26th 1862 he was promoted to 2nd Sergeant in (2d) Company G 5th regiment, TN. infantry. Records show that he was present for duty in Paris, Tenn. , Columbus, Ky. , and Shelbyville , Tenn. ….Fletcher Etheridge was wounded 3 times during the civil war. He lost sight in one eye as a result of his service in the war but this wound was not documented on his service records, however , one of the incidents in which he was injured is well documented by a permanent marker along the highway in Mansfield, near Paris, Tenn. : … Skirmish at Mansfield in the month of March, 1864 … Company G , 7 TH Regiment TN. Calvary was detailed to escort Tennessee's Governor Isham Green Harris to his home in Paris, Tenn. , near Mansfield they encountered a detachment of Federal Soliders and a spirited engagement took place. The Federal force retired with 2 killed including their Major in command. Company G had 2 wounded, thought to be William Fletcher Etheridge, and a man by the name of Stubblefield. Comment shared from ( Joe Stouts Civil War Weakley County )… Also Fletcher was wounded at Shiloh as a 4 th Sgt. in Company G ( April 1862) According to '' The History Henry County Commands Which Served The Confederate States Arm,'' By LT Edwin H. Rennolds, Company ''K'' Fifth Tennessee Infantry - SunPublishing Co. Jacksonville Florida 904 ; page 130 , in Formation on Company ''B'' 5th Tennessee Regiment Infantry Line 13……. and Page 245'' Roll Of Company ''G'' 7th Regiment Tennessee Calvary …………. surviving the war, he died February 12, 1905, he is buried in Dresden , TN. .. Weakley County, Sandy Branch Cemetery

My GreatGrandfather was from Fulton County Kentucky when he enlisted July 23, 1861 and served as a private in Co K of the 5th Tennessee Infantry CSA. Dischared in Tupelo MS on July 1862 with a disability of the loss of three fingers on his right hand which had been shot off during the battle of Shiloh (April 6-7, 1862). He was admitted into the Confederate Soldiers Home in Higginsville MO in Feb 1905 with consumption (tuberculosis). He died later that year on 1 Dec 1905.and he is buried in the Confederate Soldiers Home Cemetery.
