My grandfather, Amos Rowland was born Nov. 12, 1811 in N.C.
He married Emily Malone abt. 1837 in Carroll Co., Tenn. He was in Companies A and B of the 7th Regt. Tenn. Cavalry. He died Sept. 1874 in Carroll Co., Tenn.

Enl: 15 Jan 1864 Disch: 9 Aug 1865. Also in Co 'A'.

Sion,two brothers and an uncle survived the war, Granville, 27th TN. Inf.Co K, CSA, Samuel and Mark, 7th Tn.Cav,Union. Sion reenlisted with the 2nd Tn. Mounted Inf. after capture at Trenton and release from Camp Chase on parol, he mustered out at Nashville.

John Tate is the brother of my great-great grandfather, Jesse Tate also of the 7th Cavalry. He enlisted in Carroll Co., TN in Aug. 1862. He mustered out at Saulsbury,TN in Oct. 1863. He was later killed that year along with his brother Jasper by bushwackers. It is possible he was in the 9th Tennessee Cavalry instead of the 7th.

Andrew joined on May 6 1862 served duration of war was honorably discharged at war end but had a terrible fate on way home. He got on the Sultana at Vicksburg for the journey home and as records show the ship was vastly overcrowded and met its fate 4 miles north of Memphis where it blew up and sank. Some 1700 souls lost there life that night. His soul lies at the bottom of the Mississippi river. He was never married.

Thomas was born in 1835 at Henderson co Tn. Joined in 1862 along with his brother Andrew. He was captured at Lexington then released and rejoined his company and served thru duration of war.He was mustered out at Camp Chase Ohio, but for some reason never returned home and never heard from again. He had 2 other brothers who joined the confederates,John Wesley and Daniel.Our family carries the old adage...brother against brother....

Elisha Tate is the brother of my great-great grandfather Jesse Tate also of the 7th Cavalry. Elisha enlisted 4 days after his brother (Jan. 1865) and discharged Aug. 1865. He died in 1901 in Carroll Co.,TN.

Jesse Tate is my great-great grandfather, sadly he was a Yankee.(I am sure he did what he thought was right.) He enlisted in Paducah,KY in Jan.1865 at the age of 29 and discharged in Louisville,KY in July 1865. He was thrown from his horse in April 1865. He received a back injury that he never recovered from. He received Pension after applying several times. In his last application dated 1898 'that his occupation was that of a farmer until he became so lame that he could not work and follow a plow. He then worked as a blacksmith and was not able to do but little work and would not try to do any where he not complelled to.' He died in 1904 in Dyer Co.,TN.

Winship Dyer enlisted in Company K on October 2, 1863 at Henderson, Tennessee. He was 32 years old. He was captured in 1864 and sent to Andersonville Prison in Georgia, where he died of dysentary on September 9, 1864. He is buried in grave No. 8329. Reg. No. 11537.

William enlisted on June 1, 1863 at Saulsbury, Tennessee, at the age of 21 years. He was captured in 1864 ans sent to Andersonville, where he died from starvation and scurvy on August 27, 1864. The archives don't reflect where he was captured, but most of his regiment was captured in N.B. Forrest's attack on Union City, Tennessee in March 1864 (See Dyer's Compendium). The last roll for Co. K in which he is included was for January-February 1864, which supports this presumption. William's uncle was Winship Dyer, who also died at Andersonville.
