According tp the records in the National Archives, the 177th Regiment was a drafted militia for 9 months service, principally from Lycoming, Susquehanna, Dauphin, Luzerne, Perry and Indiana counties, organized at Camp Curtin during October and November of 1862 and mustered out at Harrisburg in August of 1863.
