Levi S. Bennethum
- Sergeant
After serving with the three-month 14th Pennsylvania at the start of the war, my GGG-Grandfather, Levi Bennethum enlisted with Co. D, 90th Pennsylvania. From a muster-in rank of Corporal, he was later promoted to Sergeant. He saw action at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Petersburg. From January until April 1864, he was assigned to the recruiting service in Philadelphia, returning to the regiment at Petersburg in June of that year. He died in 1915 and is buried in Womelsdorf, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Date of muster: Jan. 10, 1862. Wounded at the 2nd Battle of Manasas (Bull Run), August 30, 1862. Promoted to 1st Lt. of Company F, March 1863. Resigned as Capt. of Company D, 90th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers & discharged Oct. 22, 1863. Resigned Capt. of Company F, 90th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania on 01 November 1863.

Nathan C. Raymond was the son of John Raymond & Elizabeth Parcell of NJ. He was born 27 Mar 1830 in NJ. He married Mary Jennifer Poole Mar 1870 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA. He died 03 Jan 1903 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA. He is buried in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Philadelphia, PA.

Great grandfather. Joined the 90th PA Volunteers as a teenager in 1861. Remained in the regiment until 1864 when the regiment was dissolved. He transferred to the 11th PA Infantry and was present at Appomattox at the time of Gen. Lee's surrender.

Thomas Berger, (my g-grandfather), was a color bearer, and sur- vived Gettysburg; he was wounded twice, once at Fredrictsburg, (before Gettysburg), in the right thigh, and (after Gettysburg) in the left forearm, at the Wilderness.He lived to be 65.d-1921 A great book on the 90th P.A. Vol. Infantry,''The Last Man and the Last Life'', by James Durkin, follows ''the 90th'' from its'' inception through the entire war, with a vivid, detailed des- cription of each battle, bases on letters and diaries of those who fought in the battles. Really worthwhile reading!
