I am a professional historian who is working on various aspects of the history of Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. William Beardshear was the 5th President of Iowa State from 1891 until his death in 1902. He served with the 184th Ohio in the ACW. He lied about his age to join the unit in 1864 and served until mustered out in 1865.

He is also listed in the 185th Ohio Infantry.
