Wilson Byrum - Private
|
Wilson Byrum and William Byrum were brothers who served together in the Ohio 46th, Co. B. Both were born in Indiana but spent their childhoods and adulthoods in Franklin County, Ohio. William was my great-great grandfather. Wilson died about 7 months after being discharged from the war, at the age of 24. He is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dublin, near Muirfield Village Golf Course. His is one of two graves honored with a gold star designating a Civil War veteran. William is buried in Galloway Cemetery in nearby Prairie Township, Franklin County, Ohio. His grave remains quite legible and remains in relative good care. The 46th Ohio Volunteer Infantry has been hailed as one of the top 300 fighting units in the war. They helped the Union to numerous victories, including a critical one at Vicksburg.
