This is my father-in-laws Grandfather.

We have a photo of the regiment with a riverboat in background. He served with his dog 'Jack.' We have discharge papers for the dog. Does anyone have any photos of this regiment and company?

Andrew Uttz (Utz) died in 1915 at the old soldier's home in Levnworth, KS. Middle son of John & Nancy Utz (Ohio)

Andrew lived in Fort Worth, TX after the war. He was father of Frank (my grandfather) & William Uttz. Some records show Andrew buried in Fort Worth. His grave however is at Levenworth.

Jonathan died of wounds received at the Battle of Chickasaw Bay and of dysentery. He was on a river boat from Vicksburg, MS and died 20 miles from Cairo, IL where his body was taken ashore and buried.

Enlisted as a Private on 19 September 1861 at the age of 20.
Mustered in Company G, 42nd Infantry Regiment Ohio on 27 November 1861.
Promoted to Full Corporal on 3 April 1862.
Promoted to Full Sergeant on 17 August 1863.
Promoted to Full 1st Sergeant on 5 July 1864.
Mustered out on 2 December 1864 at Columbus, OH.
