In University Rifles of Miami University at Oxford (Ohio), later 20th OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) Company B. When the first shot at Fort Sumpter was fired, almost the entire senior class signed up to enlist and were graduated early. There was a 3 month service period and 3 year period for this unit. As there were boys from both the north and the south at the school, they said goodbye to their southern classmates at the train station and each went where they had to go...

Ezekiel 'Zeke' Anderson, Jr. (1844-1932) was born in Union Township, Monroe County, OH. He died in Greenup, Cumberland County, IL and is buried in the Harmony Cemetery in Greenup, Cumberland County, IL. He married Rachel Catherine Winnett, and together they had either 4 or 5 children.

'Zeke' was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed.

Birth: Feb. 3, 1840 Shelby Co., Ohio Death: Jan. 2, 1897 Newton Harvey Co., Kansas

Henry went by his middle name Frank, was born in Shelby county, Ohio, in 1840. He served throughout the war in the Union army, in Benton Cadets of Missouri and in Co. K, 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

He came to Kansas in 1871, locating in Topeka. He came to Newton in 1873, and married Miss Kate Greer in December of the same year. He entered the transfer business upon coming to Newton, afterwards opening a coal yard. He was also the pioneer ice dealer in Newton, having an extensive business. He was prominent in Newton affairs, and held several public positions of trust.
