47th NC, Pettigrew's Brigade, Heth's Division, was under the Army of Northern Virginia and took part in the Pickett/Trimble/Pettigrew charge on July 3, 1863 at Gettsburg, amongst many other battles.
W. Fenner left NC not long after the war and went to Missouri and was in Texas by 1871 (according to TX records). In the 1900 census he is listed on the Midland Co., TX rolls as single and working as a day laborer. By 1906 Fenner applied to the state of TX for a confederate veteran pension as he was no longer able to work due to “suffering from wounds from explosion during war”. He was granted a pension and lived the rest of his days in the confederate veterans home in Austin, TX.

Patterson was my great-great 1st cousin who, along with brother James, volunteered on 04/30/1862. Fought in the engagements leading to Gettysberg where he was part of the Pettigrew-Trimble brigades and charges. He was later captured with James at Petersberg, Va. on 10/27/1864 and later released from Pt. Lookout, Md. 06/13/1865.

Zachariah Apple - Private

Zachariah was my great-great 2nd cousin and cousin to James and Patterson also of the 47th co k. At age 24 he volunteered on 04/20/1862. He and the cousins fought thru numerous engagements before Gettysberg. He survived and was later captured along with the cousins at Petersberg, Va. 10/27/1864 and was exchanged 03/28/1865 from Pt. Lookout, Md. returning to the regiment later to be paroled on 05/10/1865.

|
Milton was my great-great 2nd cousin who volunteered at age 20 on 04/20/1862. He survived the engagements leading to Gettysberg and survived the slaughter of the regiment. on 10/27/1864 he was captured at Petersberg, Va., taken to Pt. Lookout Md. where he was released on 06/27/1865.

Josiah was my great-great 1st cousin. Fought th gettysberg campaign as well as other battles. Ended up in the Lynchberg, Va. hospital 05/04/1864 for an unk reason but returned to duty and paroled at Greensboro, NC 05/05/1865.

Riley Adam Kernodle - Private

Riley was my great-great 1st cousin and brother to William. they both volunteered for service 04/20/1862.He was 32. They came thru the numerous engagements the regiment was involved and fought at Gettysberg. He was wounded 05/10/1864 and later captured at Sutherland Station Railroad, City Pt., Va. He was taken to Harts Island, N.Y. and released 06/17/1865.

William was my great-great 1st cousin who volunteered on 04/20/1862 at age 20. fighting with the regiment he was later wounded at Gettysberg and was taken back to Va. he was wounded again prior to 09/30/1864 and captured at Sutherland Station, Va. 04/03/1865. he was released from Pt. Lookout, Md. on 06/28/1865.

Alpheus Green Sharp - Private
|
Enlisted at Graham, NC, with his brother Michael R. Sharp. Wounded in the hand during Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. Michael was captured and died while a POW at Fort Delaware in October 1863. Alpheus suffered a major gunshot wound to the right thigh during the battle of Cold Harbor in June of 1864. Remained in hospital until March 1865. Released from the hospital and paroled at Greensboro, NC, in April 1865.

my great-great 1st cousin henry enlisted 03/13/1862.he was in the pettigrew/trimble charge at gettysburg. his uncle william was in the 52nd n.c. that also participated in the charge. henry was wounded 06/02/1864 and was taken prisoner near petersberg, va on 10/27/1864. he was held at pt. lookout,md. until his parole in 1865.
