My 2nd great grand uncle: Born to Horace Wheeler Nichols and Abigail Chloe (Holt) Scarritt Nichols in 1832 at Naugatuck, CT. Married Clarinda Ainsworth on 06 AUG 1856 in Colesville, New York. Enlisted in Company F, New York 137th Infantry Regiment on 03 SEP 1862in Windsor, NY . Died on 03 JUL 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. His brothers Henry, Edward (my 2nd great grandfather) and George also served the Union in other regiments in Connecticut and New York.

I am not a relative. I have letters written by William to his family in Candor, NY dated Mar 17, 1863, May 21, 1863 and Sept 19th, 1863. The May 21st letter was written for Mr Barto by William H Wood. Willam Barto was mortally wounded in Tenn.

The older half-brother of my 2nd-great-grandfather, Charles Frisbe Strong, Ambrose served with his brother, George Washington Strong, in the same company. Ambrose died 28 February 1864 in Stevensville, Alabama from disease contracted during the War.
