Lt. John B. Read enlisted as 2nd Lt. at Albany, New York on 4 Aug 1862 -- into Co A, N.Y. Heavy Artillery. He was killed at the Battle of Cold Harbor, 3 June 1864 and left a wife and children. John was a brother of my gr. granfather, Calvin Read who had moved to Kansas. One side of the monument at Schodack, N.Y. cemetery shows his death date. On another side is his brother, Richard P. Read of the Kansas 10th Inf. who rests in an unknown grave in Cherokee Co, Kansas.
