Michigan Survivors of the Iron Brigade in 1923
The data below reflects only the 24th Michigan.
Company E Witherall, Duane

he was 17 years of age, when he responded to the country's call for aid, enlisting in 1865 as a member of the twenty-fourth Michigan Volunteer infantry. He continued with the army until the close of hostilities

Duane got in the army toward the end of the Civil War and was a foot soldier out of group in Michigan.
One of his older brothers Henry died of disease in Tennessee and was a sergeant in the Calvary. I’ve been told about how he was a part of President Lincoln funeral. In springfield Illinois where Lincoln is buried that my Great Grandpa Duane got to fire a volly of shot at Lincoln grave side service part. He was part of the 21 gun salute
