My Great-Grandfather John Howard Thomas lived in the Eden (AKA Thomas) District on the Island of Mt. Desert near Bar Harbor Maine.
His surname was Howard and adopted name Thomas. He served in both the 26th and 31 Regiments.

Not a relative but a recent visitor to his grave. Orrison Morton is buried at the South Road Cemetery in Oakfield, ME, and has a placard from the Grand Army of the Republic next to his headstone.

Died April 22, 1863,in New Orleans, as a result of gunshot wound in his side received at Irish Bend.He served under Capt Abner Fletcher.He was buried in Baton Rouge. He left widow Mary Jane Temple Pike and four children,Sarah Francis, George William, Charles Lewis, and Minnie Bell Pike.

Born July 4, 1836 Bangor, Maine Died January 8, 1908 Caribou, Maine
He volunteered in one of the first calls for soldiers in the Civil War and served as a Private with Company F, 25th Infantry Regiment Unit #1043 from 10/11/1862 to 8/17/1863. He was uninjured in battle though he was in some severe encounters.
Hospitlized on August 2, 1863 at Mound City , Illinois
He contracted a fever which left its results on all of his later life.
