Stephen was a member the 2nd US Sharpshooters. I could not find them in this database but they did transfer to 17th Maine on February 20, 1865 when the sharpshooters disbanded.
2nd US Sharpshooters (Berdan’s Sharpshooters) Mustered In: November 2 1861 Promoted to 1st Sergeant at Gettysburg July 4 1863 Re-enlisted 12/23/1863 Promoted to Captain April 27 1864
Wounded by a shell at Pamunkey River May 23 1864. Recuperated in Washington DC and was discharged January 15 1865. He died during his trip home to Maine on August 14, 1865 He was 28 years old.

He served as a private in Company B, 17th Regiment, Maine Volunteer Infantry.

Henry Walcott. He then reenlisted for 3 more years on February 29th 1864 in Pelham New York, Westchester County. This reenlistment form was sworn and subscribed to Commander of 17th Infantry Catlett Station Virginia before J. Delaney Captain
