Andrew McGraw was born Abt. 1812 in Ballee, Down County, Ireland, and died September 19, 1863 in Morris Island, SC.
Andrew McGraw a resident of Calais ME enlisted as a Private, with his three sons, Barnard, Andrew Jr., and Thomas Henry, into 'A' Co. ME 9th Infantry on September 22, 1861. Andrew died on September 19, 1863 at Morris Island, SC. (Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Maine (c) Historical Data Systems, Inc. Duxbury, MA 02331)

Military Service Records from National Archives Washington DC included a copy of Certificate of Discharge dated March 6, 1865, given at Wilmington NC, signed by Capt Babcock, Commanding Company 9th ME Inf. Co. 'A'. Reads in-part: Andrew McGraw a Private of Captain Chas. A. Brooks Co. A Ninth Maine Inf. Age 51 years, 5ft. 5 inches, light complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair, by occupation a Teamster having served Honestly, and Faithfully with his Company to the present date, is now entitled to a Discharge by reason of Death, died in US Hospital Morris Island, SC Sept 19, 1863 of disease.
Burial: 1863, Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
Military service: Bet. 1861 - 1863, Enl 9th Inf. Reg. ME.

PVT. CHARLES WEDMAN, Co A 9th Maine Regt. of Volunteers; he enlisted at the age of 17 on Sept 4, 1861 at Calais, ME. Charles Wedman mustered into US Service at Augusta ME of the Sep 21, 1861 for three years service as PVT. Wound in leg July 18, 1863 during assault on Battery Wagner. According to sister Mary Wedman, Charles Wedman was hit by shrapnel from the fort guns, receiving a serious head & leg wounds. Charles died from these wounds on 5 Sept 1863. He is buried at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC, Grave #1741 Section 20. His mother Jane Wedman filed for pension on 22 Nov 1866, Application # 137-763, Pension # MC 120-507. Medical information indicate that he had dark eyes hazel and black hair.

James died several days short of his 46th birthday in 1879. He is buried in the Ridge Road Cemetery in Plymouth, Maine. He was the youngest brother of my G-G Grandfather, Joseph Sargent Moody.

Jacob served in the 9th Maine (Infantry). He was stationed for a while in Fernandino in Jacksonville Florida area.
His wife''s name was Martha McKinney Wilson. I would love to hear from anyone with information on this topic.

Aaron was from northern Maine, a place known as Castle Hill. He was wounded in the leg while night digging trenches to bring up the morters that would be used in the attack on Battery Wagner. He was sent to general hospital number 5 in Beufort and it is there that he died.

George also served in Co. K, 25th Maine Infantry earlier in the war.

My husband''s 2nd great grandfather. Drafted in Sept 1864 and served until mustered out in June 1865. Have copies of 24 letters written to his wife. Interested in hearing from families of others in Co. D who served at the same time.

George is my great great great grandfather. He was born in Canada Jan 22 1834 and resided in Binham/Solon and Skowhegan Maine from about 1848 till his death in the 1920's. I recently found that he was a POW at Salisbury Prison, NC. He was taken as of Dec. 1, 1861 and released in May/June 1862. I am interested in finding relatives of other 9th ME POW's from this time frame. I have no oral history of this.
His rank was Wagoner.

My GG grandfather was a wagoneer from what I understnd and was wounded in the face at Chaffins farm VA. I have photos in uniform. Also have interesting photos before and after he was shot through the cheek at Chaffins farm. Very clear picture of the wound.

3rd grandfather, Victor St. Louis, spelled Saint Louis on his records. Was born in Green River Canada and was a paid replacement for Orrin Williams for a period of one year of then New Portland, Maine. He recieved the sum of $600.00 for taking this mans place.Enlisted 28 Sep 1864, join 2d Maine on 14 Oct 1864 mustered out on 30 Jun 1865 in raleigh N.C. Died by
falling down the stairs at his home in Old Town, Maine and broke his neck.

3rd great-grandfather. Sylvester's grandfather was Capt. Joseph Boynton of 2nd and 3rd N.H in Revolutionary war.

Eben was killed as a result of injuries sustained in Petersburg, Virginia. He died at Point Lookout, Maryland, but was later buried in Arlington.

22 September 1862 he volunteered for three years. Much of his service was in North and South Carolina, often on 'special duty' in the Quartermaster's Department. There was a long period of hospitalization in Hampton, Virginia's military hospital. Josiah was mustered out 30 June 1865 at Raleigh, North Carolina, at the conclusion of the war.

Thomas is my 3GGrandfather. Born in Ireland in 1841- he served first in the 2nd Maine Inf. and then in the 9th. He enlisted in the 9th on November 3,1863 and was wounded on May 16, 1864 at Drury's Bluff,VA. He was medically discharged on July 24, 1864.

Andrew Jackson Lewis, after serving in the 3rd Infantry, also enlisted as a substitute in the 9th Maine Infantry into Co. I on September 29, 1864. He mustered out of that unit on May 28, 1865.

llewellyn smith was captured @ weldon railroad august 25, 1864 and was confined at libby and belle isle prisons.died in etna, maine august 07, 1883.
