John Thomas Craycroft - 2nd Corporal
|
Enlisted on 8 Oct 1861 at Bowling Green, KY in Co. A, 6th KY Mounted Infantry Regiment. Appointed 2nd Corporal upon organization of the unit. Participated at Vicksburg, Stones River, Jackson, Chickamauga, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, and Dallas, GA. Wounded in the shoulder at Dallas, GA but rejoined the unit at Green's Cut, GA and was with the dismounted detachment until it's surrender at Washington, GA on 6 May 1865. Following the war in 1868 he was appointed Marshal of Springfield, KY an office he held for a number of years. In 1880 he was elected as Washington County, KY Treasurer and reelected for a number of terms. Died in Cincinnatti, OH while visiting his son on 29 Nov 1913. Buried at St. Dominic Cemetery in Springfield, KY.
