James Samuel Asbury - Private |
'Sam' enlisted on September 15, 1862, with his brother Robert Franklin, in Co. D. He was recruited by Captain Thomas E. Moore. He died November 15, 1862 at Emory and Henry Hospital in Washington County, VA. Captain Moore was appointed as executor of the estate. Sam left a son, James Calvin, born June 10, 1862 and a wife. Family tradition says he 'died in the South and was buried in the South' but Emory and Henry College has no record of his burial there and Captain Moore turned in a receipt for rail transport of his body back to Kentucky. My 4th great-uncle.
