John H. Groves served honorably throughout the war. Later, he moved to little Nampa, Idaho where he married and raised three daughters. John passed away in 1919 and is buried at Kohler Lawn cemetery in Nampa, Idaho with a soldier's headstone.

William B. Walker was my gt grandfather. He enlisted as a Private on 11 December 1863 at age 33 in Mahaska Co. Iowa. He was injured at the Battle of Jenkins Ferry, Arkansas on 30 April 1864 and was a POW in Texas. He was transfered to and mustered out from Co. C 34th Infantry on 12 July 1865 at Davenport, Iowa.

According to Mahaska County, Iowa history:
'During the periord of the Civil War Mr. Beal put aside personal considerations and enlisted at Montezuma, Iowa, on the 29th of February, 1964, as a member of Company E, of the Thirty-Third Iowa Reserves under Captain Prouty,who resides in Des Moines. They rendezvoused at Davenport and afterward went to Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Beal was in an engagement at Jenkins Ferry on the Saline River when Steel was making a retreat to Little Rock. He was also at the battle of Spanish Fork across the bay from Mobile, the siege of that place lasting for thirteen days and nights. He was subsequently at Little Rock, Arkansas, and becoming ill was in a small hospital for a short time. He was mustered out at Houston, Texas, August 15, 1965, and now receives a small pension in recognition of his services.'

Wounded and taken prisoner during the battle of Jenkins Ferry. Prisoner of War at Tyler, Texas. Released at end of war, discharged May 22, 1865 Davenport Iowa. Lived the remainder of his life in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Was the last surviving member of Company E. Died April 19, 1933.
