Milton L Garrison was my great, great grandfather. He enrolled on August 14, 1862 at Afton,Iowa and was honorably discharged at Davenport, Iowa on May 23, 1865. During the war he was present in several engagements, until he was taken prisoner on April 30, 1864 at Jenkins Ferry, Arkansas. I found this information at the National Archives in Washington, DC and at the 29th Regiment Iowa Infantry wikipedia site. My questions, what occured on the White River expedition that caused so many of the men in this group to fall ill and eventually die.
