From my Great Grandfather's grave he was a member of Co. A 33rd Inf IN. Joined (15 yoa) 16 Sep 1861 and departed 21 Jul 1865.

William Dilley was mustered in on September 16,1861 in Indianapolis. He was a war correspondent for the Martinsville Reporter through the war. He fought at Camp wild Cat,KY,Crab Orchard,KY,and was in the Cumberland Gap Campaign. He was wounded and captured at the Battle of Thompson Station TN, he spent two weeks at Libby Prison. He was also in Sherman's March to the Sea. He mustered out on July 21,1865. He married and raised a family in Morgan County where he grew up. He died in March of 1924. He is buried at Mt. Olive Church in Morgan County.

John A. McCloud was my great grandfather. After the war, he married and eventually moved from Indiana to the Coffeyville Kansas area, where my grandfather and father were born.

My 2nd Great-grand uncle,1st served in the 70th Indiana Infantry co H,then transfered to the 33rd.His tombstone list his service in the 33rd.

Beginning to be a reference for the 33rd. They have his gravestone photo, when he mustered in (jives with history of regiment) and when he mustered out. He left while they were occupying Atlanta. I suspect he left early due to his wife's illness. She died in 1865.

Killed in action (first man to fall), Battle of Camp Wildcat, KY - October 21, 1861. Buried in Plot F, Camp Nelson, KY.

Killed on 16 July 1864 at Nashville, TN.

William Estes is my great-great-grandfather. He enlisted at Seymour, Indiana as a volunteer substitute for a man named Grenor (spelling?) Bishop. William said he was 18 when in fact he had just turned 17. He served in Sherman's Army in the 33rd Indiana Infantry Company E from 1864/10/13 to 1865/07/21. Paperwork describes him as being 5'10" light complexion, gray eyes and brown hair. His brother Huston Taylor Estes joined him also as a substitute and paperwork indicates he was 19 when in fact he would have been only 16. After the war, he returned to his home in Brownstown Indiana and eventually moved to Kansas, Illinois and then Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where he died in 1925. I have no photographs of William. Perhaps someone has a group photo of this company regiment?

Also known as Harry. Last name often misspelled as 'Lyons'. Buried in Fort Scott Kansas National Cemetery. Mentioned several times in 33rd Regimental History as 'religous member of Regiment' and also with 3 stories of his adventures during the war. Life spared due to his Masonic affiliation.

Also served in 55th Indiana, 3 month Regiment, and 20th Indiana Light Battery. Buried in National Cemetery in Arkansas.

Great Grandfather-got info from Declaration for Widows pension. served 3/14/1861-7/21/1865 honorable discharge. died May 27, 1913.

Gavin Stormont was from Princeton, IN. He was in the Battle of Wildcat Mountain in KY and the Battle of Thompson's Station in TN, where over 1000 were captured and taken to Libby Prison in Richmond. They suffered terribly en route and while in prison. After the war he returned to Princeton and had 7 children who lived. In 1883 they homesteaded in a sod house in Esmond SD for 20 years, then moved to Pomona, CA. He was G.A.R. Commander of Calif. and Nev. in 1913. He wrote his memoirs. Wife Elizabeth Ann Watt had 2 brothers who served from Ohio,as well as 2 of wife's brothers-in-law. His half-brother Gil Stormont from Indiana served also.

This is my gg-grandfather. After the war, he lived in Tennesee, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

Distinguished service; died as a POW at Andersonville Prison.

Lotharo enlisted 15 June 1863 in Indianapolis and was killed by guerrillas along with Captain Dille, near Fosterville, Tennessee on 17 July 1863. His body was never recovered. He was born in 1842 in Jennings County, Indiana to Daniel Jones and Susannah Persons.

My wife's G-G-Grandfather
James H. Baker was from Morgan Co., IN. In April 1862, at the age of 15 he lied about his age saying he was 18 and enlisted in Co. H, 33rd Indiana Inf. He served with the regiment for 3 years in Tennessee and Georgia. He was captured at Thompson's Station in 1863 along with the majority of his brigade. They were paroled and exchanged and he returned to his regiment 3 months later. He participated in all the battles of the Atlanta and Carolinas Campaigns until he was discharged upon the completion of his three year enlistment in April 1865. He returned to Indiana where he married and started a family. In 1880 he moved his family to northeast Nebraska. He lived in Burt Co., NE, for several years before settling in Stanton, NE. He worked as a mail carrier. He joined the local GAR post in 1891. After his wife died he moved with his children to South Dakota where he lived in the South Dakota Soldiers Home in Hot Springs. He died in 1928 and is buried in Stanton, NE. In the summer of 2006 a new military marker was placed on his grave and a dedication service was conducted by SUVCW members from NE and WI during Stanton's 125th anniversery celebration.

William Logan Farr was my great grandfather born in Morgan Co Ind 1837, died Neoga Il 1904 3 years in Civil War, captured and sent to Libby prison.

Andrew J Whitsett was 1st sgt of company H for a short while. He was born in Indiana in 1817 and 44 years old when he went in to the Army. He was my great great grandfather.

Age 18, Eyes-blue, Hair-brown, Height-5'5', complexion, dark, from Warren Co., IN, Occupation-Cabinet Maker.

When Abraham Lincoln made his first call for men to serve ninety days to put down the rebellion, William was on of the first to enlist. He mustered in as Private of Co. B, 10th Regiment Indiana Volunteers on 23rd Apr 1861 at Williamsport, IN. Mustered out 6 Aug 1861. He enrolled again as a Corporal of Co. K, 33rd Regiment Indiana Volunteers at Indianapolis on 12th of Sept 1861 and mustered in on 16 Sept 1861 for a three year term. Promoted to Sargent 14 Mar 1862, promoted from 1st Sargent to 1st Lieutenant 1 Jan 1865, and mustered out 21 July 1865.

He participated in all the great battles from Vicksburg to Richmond including Sherman's March to the Sea. He was reported missing in action at Thompson's Station on 5 Mar 1863 and he suffered horrors of incarceration at Libby Prison during the Virginia campaign at Richmond. He was released for a prisoner exchange and returned to duty 30 June 1863. He received a Twenty five dollar per month pension staring 10 July 1913, plus a Thirty dollar per month pension starting 10 July 1918.

He was born in Waverly, NY (Oneida County)on April 18,1840. Died in Elsinore, CA (Riverside County) March 1, 1925 while visiting his daughter. One of his daughters was Nina Maude Parker, my great-grandmother (who later became Nina Maude Becker). Hiram is buried in Hanford Cemetery, near Fresno, California.

He married Arletta Niola Ellis Francis January 1, 1866 in Lacon, Illinois (Marshall County). She predeceased him and died May 29, 1917. She is also buried in Hanford Cemetery.

He mustered in September 16, 1861. He was principle musician playing coronet. Company K left Camp Morton in Indianapolis September 29, 1861 for Louisville, Kentucky and quartered in Boone Tobacco Warehouse. General Robert Anderson was in command, succeeding Brigadier General W. T. Sherman.

In 'spring, 1864 they reorganized and went to battlefields from Chattanooga to Atlanta. Hiram V. Parker ably performed his part. The band played in camp, on the tiresome marches and in the bloody battles.' ... 'On the Atlanta campaign, when the regiment was engaged in battle, the band organized and did heroic and effective work in taking care of the wounded and at Reseca, Hiram Van Buren Parker laid aside his instrument, shouldered a gun and went into fight.'

His occupation was listed as farmer, 5'8', blue eyes, dark brown hair. His rank was corporal (same at discharge) and he was promoted to Principal Musician per order from Regimental Commander.
