Promoted to Captain of Co. C 28 Jul 1862. Enrolled 1 Jan 1865 as Major in the 22nd Regt for a period of 3 years; enrolled by Gov. Morton. Discharged 8 Jun 1865 in Louisville, KY, for the purpose of accepting a position as Lt. Col. of the 22nd Regt. Mustered in as Lt. Col. of the 22nd Regt. 9 Jun 1865 in Louisville by L. ?. Scruggs. Discharged at SO #26 A. T. 3 Jul 1865. Died in 1889.

Winfield Scott Beck - Private
|
Winfield Scott Beck was born about 1833 near Mocksville, Rowan/ Davie Co., NC. Parents: Madden and Rebecca Hatley Beck, moved by 1840 to Clark Co. IN with 9 kids. Winfield married Elizabeth Ann Brown 16 Sept 1856, in neighboring Jefferson Co. IN. Two children: Oren Winfield and Mary Alice Beck were born in Jackson Twp. Jackson Co. IN. Winfield enlisted at Seymour, Jackson Co. IN on 10 Oct 1862. He then moved his family back to Jefferson Co. where he mustered in with Co. B, 22nd Indiana Infantry on 30 Oct 1862. Winfield went missing Dec 31, 1862 at the Battle of Stones River, TN, and died a POW at Montgomery AL in Jan 1863. He was later interred at Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta GA. Daughter Mary Alice Beck married James S. Davis in Jefferson Co. IN. Son, Oren Winfield Beck, married Cornelia 'Kate' Elenbaas, 24 April 1891, Jefferson Co. IN. Both siblings followed cousins and friends to South Tama County, Iowa in 1900s where they remained.

(9-7-2009)I have just received the compiled service record from NARA. Andrew enlisted Sept. 19, 1864, fought in Tennessee and Alabama, became ill for a period and sent to Indianapoli; then in January was transported from Indianapolis via rail and ship to Savannah, GA to join Sherman's forces. He caught dysentary along the way, was put in the U. S. Army Hospital in Savannah, and died there on March 20, 1865.
