Enlisted in Indianapolis on January 20 or 26, 1864, during the original organization of Company I, for a term of three years. His Company Muster-In Roll record records his age as 22 years and his muster-in date as February 3, 1864. He had been a resident of Eel River Twp., Hendricks Co., Indiana. His Company Muster Rolls report he was hospitalized (Nashville and Gallatin, TN) with an illness from from November 25, 1864 through at least February 1865. He had returned to his Company by May 1865. He was mustered out at Vicksburg, MS on August 28, 1865. He was recognized with a Distinguished Service notation.

My great great great grandfather enlisted January 7,1864 with Company L 9th Cavalry 121 Indiana Regiment. He was from Monroe County where he left his wife Louisa and young sons. He died in Louisville, KY on January 22, 1865 and is buried in Cave Hill National Cemetery.

Thomas Ladd enlisted in 1862 and discharged in 1865. He was shot in the stomach during a battle when family asked him 'what did you do then' thomas replied 'I shot the S O B in his stomach' this is the earliest records i can find of my Great Grandfather.
