He became deaf after an explosion. He used a horn to aid his hearing. Could this have been a result during battle?

John Martin Bellman - Private
|
My great great grandfather was born in Bavaria in 1829 as John Martin Billman, immigrated to NY in 1842 with his brother Peter. John married Elizabeth Ann Williams in 1853 in Cookstown/Fayette City, Fayette Co, PA. About 1854 they moved to Coal Valley, IL. They had 8 children. He inlisted in Co. H, 126th Illinois Infantry & changed surname to Bellman about 1862. About 1869 they moved to Melrose, Monroe County, Iowa and died 6 Jan 1908. I'd be interested in contacting any descendants from Co. H. Thanks.
