Solomon Barton Umphrey
- Private
My great-grandfather S.B. Umphrey was a doctor living in Lanark, Illinois when he enlisted. After the war the Umphreys moved to Iowa and then settled in Cordova, Minnesota where 'Doc' Umphrey practiced medicine for many years. He served as coroner of LeSueur County, Minnesota and later moved his practice to Waterville, Minnesota. Solomon was a country doctor for over 50 years in Minnesota. He retired to LaCrosse, Wisconsin. S.B. spent the last four months of his life being treated at the National Soldiers Home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before passing away in 1916 at age 85. He is buried at the Woods National Cemetery in Milwaukee as a Civil War Veteran.
