Was Brigade Commander during Battle of Knoxville. Was captured at Sailor's Creek in 1865.

Madison F. Crumley, first cousin to George B. and Sidney S. Crumley, was chosen for transfer and promotion to the 3rd Georgia Battalion SS on June 8, 1863. He had served as 2cd Lt. in Co.B of the 18th Georgia, the only non-Texas regiment in Hood`s Texas Brigade. He lead his sharpshooters company through fierce fighting, from Gettysburg on, until he was captured in battle on 19, Oct. 1864 at Cedar Creek during the Federal counter-attack. He was held prisoner at Fort Delaware until July 19, 1865, long after the close of combat as he joined many others who would not take the oath of allegance until the formal wording was changed.
He devoted his life to the practice of medicine in Macon and Atlanta before settling in Ogelthorpe, Georgia where he served as Mayor.

James C. Wade mustered in at Banks County, Ga. in August of 1861. He was captured at Saylors Creek in Lee's run to the west to turn south. He was taken to Point Lookout prison and was parolled in June of 1861. He returned to Banks County, received a pension in 1903 from the state of Ga. He died in 1909 and is buried in Ti Ti Baptist Church Cemetery in Ti Ti, Ga.

George B. Crumley was selected for transfer, and promotion to the 3rd. Georgia Battalion SS on June 8, 1863 at the age of 21. He was a hardened veteran from Co. K of the 24th Georgia, and fought in the sharpshooters from Gettysburg through the battle of Cedar Creek, Oct 19, 1864 when he was mortally wounded during the Federal counter-attack that afternoon. To date, I have not been able to find the exact date of death, or any information about where he was buried. His older brother, William Colley Crumley, of the 16th Georgia, died of illness in Richmond in May, 1862 and was buried in Hollywood cemetary.

Smith Crumley was selected for transfer to the 3rd Ga. Batt. SS on June 8. 1863, he was a 19 year old veteran of Co. K of the 24th Georgia. He survived the heavy fighting of the ANV from the wheatfield at Gettysburg, Fort Sanders at Knoxville, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, North Anna River, Cedar Creek, and Petersburg. After the death of his brother George, wounded at Cedar Creek, Smith Crumley was granted 60 day furlough of indulgence, and was home, in Nacoochee Valley Georgia when Lee surrendered the army. He was paroled at Athens, Georgia in May,1865. The following year he married Julia Westmoreland, they would have eight children.In 1871, Smith Crumley, and his family, including his mother and father, and two brothers and one sister, traveled by covered wagon to Colorado territory as part of what would become known as,'The Georgia Colony'. They would settle into land in and around Le Veta, Colorado. In 1877, Smith, Julia, and their children returned to Georgia and built a place along Spoil Cane Creek to live out their lives. Smith Crumley became minister of the Chattahoochee Methodist Church, the same church that would be featured in the 1952 film, 'I`d Climb The Highest Mountain.' According to his state pension forms, witnessed by C. C. Allen, M. L. Vandiver, and J. J. Westmorleand, Smith Crumley suffered in his old age from rhuematism, of which first afflicted him on picket duty near the North Carolina coast, early in the war, while a private in the 24th Georgia. Julia died in 1919. Smith Crumley died in 1932 and is buried in the Chattahoochee Methodist Churchyard in Robertstown, Georgia. He was the last full-time gatekeeper of the Unicoi Turnpike.

His grave stone is inscribed, 'A friend to his country, and a believer in Christ'.

Henry Clay Trotter born 1845, Habersham County Ga. Enlisted April 1861 24th Infantry Co G. In 1863 he volunteered for the newly formed 3rd georgia Sharpshooters. Last rank-Corporal.No more Info after 1864.

Sweetwater Enterprise, (Monroe Co. TN) July 14, 1870:

'In A Small Grave---About a mile northwest of town is the grave of a Confederate soldier. On the head-board is inscribed, “B.O. Yearwood, Co. B. 3d Ga. Bat. S.S.” Mr. Yearwood is supposed to have been killed in a cavalry skirmish which took place near Sweetwater in 1865. As he may have friends or relatives in Georgia who are ignorant of his place of burial, our Georgia exchanges are requested to copy this notice. The editor of this paper will give the friends of Mr. Yearwood any further information he can avail himself of which they may desire to obtain.'

my g g g grandad Frederick Rogers Godard born abt 1820 Monroe co GA Frederick fought for the CSA in Company C third Battailion 2nd brigade of GA state Troops..he was discharged in 1862 at age 32 Unknown date of death it is believed to be 1864-1865 unknown burial place.
I found his archived discharge paper online in Ga state archives.

Enlisted at Carrollton, GA. on 15 Aug 1861.

Private Nace Walls was born in Pendleton District, SC on 25 December 1820. He enlisted in Company E, 24th Georgia Infantry Regiment on 4 Mar 1862. He fought with this unit until his transfer to Company E, 3rd Georgia Sharpshooter Battalion on 8 Jun 1863. He remained with this unit through the rest of the war. He died on 15 January 1884 in Rabun County, GA. He married Nancy Jane Roach in 1839 and had several children, Clarinda, Willam, Drury, Martha, James, Nancy, Mary, and Davis. His son, Drury, fought in the 2nd NC Infantry regiment and in the 21st Georgia Infantry Regiment.

Enlisted 21 Feb 1862 at Acworth, GA.

John was previously in Co. D. of Phillips Legion Infantry. Was selected for the sharpshooters and joined them in May of 1863. His first record with this unit was a muster record for May and June 1863 which stated he was paid by Capt. Byrd on May 1st 1863. I think they were present as this unit at Chancellorsville. He was wounded at the Wilderness May 6, 1864,
