Enlisted as a 3rd Corporal on 21 August 1861 at the age of 18. Promoted to 1st Corporal (Estimated day of Promotion) on 15 August 1862. Transferred into Company A, 22nd Siege Heavy Artillery Regiment Georgia on 26 November 1862.

Wounded at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 3, 1863, and sent to Goldsboro, North Carolina, carried to Field Hospital on account of excessive heat and severe muscular cramps in 1863. Surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia, April 9, 1865. This company which became the (new) Company A, 60 th GA Regiment, Meriwether County, 'Anthony Grays', was organized in September, 1861 for one year, as Captain DuBose's Company, Georgia Volunteers. Upon the organization of the 2nd Battalion North Carolina Infantry in November 1861, it was assigned to that battalion as Company E. In May 1862, the company was reorganized and was transferred to the 60th Regiment Georgia Infantry by S. O. Number 84, A. & I. G. O, dated April 11, 1864, and became (New) Company A, of that regiment. All Muster Rolls of this company prior to April 11, 1864, bear the caption 'Company E, 2nd Battalion North Carolina Infantry.' Charles had 2 first cousins in this unit, James A. and Morgan Henry Murrah.

Private -enlisted May 16, 1862. Left behind at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as nurse for the wounded, July 3, 1863. Captured there July 5, 1863. Paroled at DeCamp General Hospital, David's Island, New York Harbor, August 24, 1863. Exchanged at City Point, Virginia, August 28, 1863. Left at Frederick City, Maryland, as nurse for wounded, July 9, 1864. Captured at Monocacy, Maryland, July 10, 1864. Imprisoned at Fort McHenry, Maryland, and Point Lookout, Maryland where he was paroled March 15, 1865. Transferred to Aiken's Landing, Virginia, same day. Received at Boulware & Cox's Wharves, James River, Virginia, and exchanged March 18, 1865. Have no information on this distant relative. The surname Cousar, which is likely a misspelling, is one of perhaps a hundred variants of the original surname Cossart. Would appre-ciate learning any information others may have on this individual.

John was born 31 Dec 1843 In Whitfield Co. Ga. He was 15 in 1860. He enlisted 19 Sep 1861 in Walker's Independent's commanded by J.C. Wardlow. This became Co C 60th Ga. Infantry. He was wounded by a shell fragment in the back at the battle of Fredricksburg. He was appointed to the rank of 3rd Corporal on 1 April 1863. He served honorably thru the war. He is listed on a POW Roll dated 17 May 1865 at Columbus. Miss. He died in 1919 and is buried at Lafayette City Cem, Walker Co. Ga. He fought in every battle except for the wounded furlough of 60 days at Fredricksburg. Malvern Hill, Bristo Station, 2nd Manasses, Antietam, Chancelorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsolvania, Cedar Creek , Hatchers Run and Fort Steadman.

Born: 1835 in Gordon County, Georgia. Enlisted on May 10th, 1862 in Whitfield County, Georgia. Died from wounds in Richmond, Virginia on May 25th, 1863.

My GG Grandfather served in Lawton-Gordon-Evans Georgia Brigade, Company D, at age 17 years. This brigade surrendered with General Robert E. Lee April 09, 1865 at Appomattox. This is historically known as General Lee's most elite brigade and suffered more casualties than any other in Confederate service.

John was born in South Carolina in 1838 He married Mary Ann Pankey in Gilmer Co. Ga. 30 Aug 1860. He had one child when he enlisted 25 Feb 1862 in Elljay, Gilmer Co. in Co F Captain William P Jarrett's Co of Vol's. He died about 2 months later of Measles at Augusta, Georgia. He has 189 cards in his archival file , 2 CMR's and the rest documents filed by his wife for a Widows claim. He was the husband of my 3rd cousin 4 x removed.

Born 20Apr1843 in Bumcombe, NC, son of Ahijah and Teresa. Enlisted at Dalton, GA 19Sep1961 as the 4th GA Bn. Later reorganized for service in VA with the Army of Northern VA as 60th GA Infantry Regiment. This was one of six Regiments that formed the Georgia Brigade that served under LtGen Stonewall Jackson and LtGen Richard Ewell. With unit from 1861-1864. Fought in battles at Richmond, Manasas, Wilderness, and Spottsylvania. Wounded in right leg (thigh)on June 2, 1864 at Cold Harbor, VA. Admitted to Chimborazo Hospital, Ward #5 in Richmond on 3Jun1864. Furloughed on 30Aug64 for 60 days. Discharged from the army in 1865 in VA. Given a prisoner's parole on 22May1865.

Pvt. James Wiley Pankey Co.F 60th Georgia Infantry {Jarrett's] born 27 Nov. 1835 and died 17 July 1932 at age 94 years and 8 months. He enlisted 25 Feb. 1862 at Gilmer, Georgia by Capt. William P. Jarrett for the war. One card states he enlistd at Ellijay. ? The 60th began as the 4th Battn: [Stile's] Georgia Infantry in Nov. 1861 with seven companies. This Battn: was increased to a Regiment in May of 1862 with the addition of three companies and desiginated the 60th Georgia Infantry

William enlisted Sept. 1861 at Dalton, Ga. by Major Calhoun for the war. This us the same company his brother James Wiley is in. He is admitted on 23 Aug. 1862 to the CSA General Hospital in Danville Va. with diagnosis of Diarrhea and returned to duty Aug 28th. His company muster roll for May-June notes that he is missing in the fight at Gettysburg. His name appears on a roll of prisoners captured on 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg. He is sent to Fort Delaware. Then sent to Point Lookout and released 1 Feb. 1864 after taking the oath. He then joind the ranks of the enemy in the US Army and never returned home. He became a traitor.

L. D. Spivey was a Private of Company F, 60th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Evans' Brigade, Gordon's Division. He was wounded in the right arm in the Second Battle of Manassas. Verbal history has it that he held the horses in later battles and was among those at Appamatox. I am anxious to learn anything possible about my G Grandfather and/or his unit.

I would appreciate any information on James J. Williams. He was my GGGGrandfather who died in the Seven Days Battle.

Chesley Calhoun was born 7 June 1827 in Dooly County, Georgia. He enlisted at Savannah, GA on 11 October 1861 and mustered into Company G of the 60th Georgia Infantry Regiment. He fought in a few of the early bloody battles and quickly advanced to 5th Sgt. Chesley was killed 17 September 1862 at the Battle of Sharpsburg in Maryland, also known as Antietam. His burial site is unknown though he is likely buried with other soldiers who perished that day near the battlefield. Chesley was my Great Great Great Great Great Grandfather (5th Great).

Wounded May 6, 1864 at the battle of the wilderness in upper rt arm. A 3 in piece of bone was removed from upper rt arm resulting in permenant disability.
