51st Georgia Infantry
Company A
George Henry Bateman, Sr. - Private
My great-great grandfather. Born in 1837. Enlisted March 4, 1862. Killed at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 3, 1863. Probably buried on the battlefield and re-interred after the war at Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery. Many soldiers died without any identification. Even those who could be identified at the time of their deaths were no longer identifiable at the time of their interment at Fredericksburg. Consequently, the identies of most of the 3,000 Confederate soldiers now buried in that cemetery are unknown, and George Bateman is likely among them.

Disappeared in Viriginia or the Carolinas, per my grandfather, grandson of Henry W Johnson. Same soldier as Henry W Johnson, Co. H, 51st GA Infantry.
