Charles A Robbe - Captain   
Charles is my g-g-g-g-grandfather. He came to Augusta, Georgia by way of Savannah and originally from Peterboro, NH. He enlisted as a Sgt. and soon rose through the rank to 2nd Lt. then 1st Lt. Just days before the surrender of the ANV at Appomattox, he received a field commission as a Capt. He was the senior company officer on April 9, 1865.

After the war, Charles served as a Representative to the State House and then went on to one term in the State Senate. After a few years of private practice (he had a plumbing and pipe fixture company Charles A Robbe Sons), he was asked to run for Mayor of Augusta. He died in office on July 7, 1900. He is buried in Magonlia Cemetery in Augusta.

They had Obediah Silas Spence whom married Susie Flora Price. They had Eva DeBertha Spence whom married Henry Gilbert Simpson. They had Opal Inez Simpson whom married Benjamen Franklin Brown. They had Dan Edwin Brown, Sr., my father.

Leaston D. Spence served Jan 1864 - Apr 1865. He was captured in a hospital at High Bridge, VA as POW 3 Apr 1865 and taken at Newport News. His Combined Service Record includes a card that notes him as having taken the oath 25 June 1865.

Present at Fredericksburg, wounded at Chancellorsvile. Present at Gettysburg. Captured Nov 30 1863 near Manassas during skirmish at Mine Run Va.

Held prisoner at Old Capitol Prison, Washington DC until sent to Pt. Lookout prison in Maryland in Feb 1864. Exchanged Feb 1865, sent to Camp Lee, Va then to hospital in Richmond VA due to illness.

Paroled at Augusta, GA May 1865.

Records indicate he passed on May 1890.

Several records show his name as John 'Jack' or John Jackson Stroud (not to be confused with his son James Jackson Stroud)

William Hauser - Chaplain   
Rev. William Hauser, M.D., was appointed Chaplain by the CSA Secretary of War on March 8, 1863. Rev. Hauser was also a surgeon and served in that position as well. Rev. Hauser was later well known for his gospel hymnals which he wrote using the shape note technique. He resigned his commission on 6 Feb 1864.
