My 3rd Greatgrandfather. Died in the Battle of Gettysburg. Wife, whom I am named after by her Granddaughter, was left a widow with 5 boys to raise and she never remarried.

A member of the Georgia legislature. Commissioned as the captain of the company on march 4, 1862. Allen was wounded at Second Manassas. He died a day later.

Enl 4 Mar 1862, Glascock Co, GA at age 19. Taken Prisoner at Gettysburg, VA 7/5/1863 and died of disease at Hammond General Hospital, Point Lookout Prison, MD, 7 Nov 1863.

Listed as J McCoy in roster. Enlisted 4 Mar 1862, age 28, Glascock Co, GA. Died 14 Apr 1863 in hospital in Lynchburg VA.

Enlisted as a Private on May 5,1862, Co A, 48th Infantry Regiment. Residence-Glascock County,Georgia. KIlled July 30, 1864 in Petersburg, VA. Would appreciate any information.

He was from Warren County, GA and was captured while a wounded straggler in Winchester, VA Was a POW at Camp Chase, Ohio and Fort Delaware, DE he returned to Warren County, GA after the war and farmed until he died. He was a 37 year old private when captured.

On March 4th,1862 at age 23 enlisted as a Corporal in Co. B the Warren Infantry. Wounded on May 3, 1863 at Chancellorsville,VA. Wounded June 9, 1864 at Petersburg,VA. Surrendered April 9 1865 at Appomattox Court House,VA.Died 31 August 1900, and buried at Johnson Methodist Church,Warrenton,GA.

Transferred to Co. A March 4, 1862 and appointed corporal. Surrendered at Appomattox, Va. April 9, 1865.

Charles is my g-g-g-g-grandfather. He came to Augusta, Georgia by way of Savannah and originally from Peterboro, NH. He enlisted as a Sgt. and soon rose through the rank to 2nd Lt. then 1st Lt. Just days before the surrender of the ANV at Appomattox, he received a field commission as a Capt. He was the senior company officer on April 9, 1865. After the war, Charles served as a Representative to the State House and then went on to one term in the State Senate. After a few years of private practice (he had a plumbing and pipe fixture company Charles A Robbe Sons), he was asked to run for Mayor of Augusta. He died in office on July 7, 1900. He is buried in Magonlia Cemetery in Augusta.

John Wesley Cheatham,of Jefferson County, Georgia, was born in 1836. He enlisted as a private in Co. E of the 48th Georgia Infantry on 4 March 1862. Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 10 Dec 1862, to Full 1st Lieutenant on 15 Jul 1863, and to Full Captain on 30 Nov 1863. He was mustered out on 09 Apr 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA.

Wounded at Petersburg remained hospitalized in Richmond for the duration of the war.

Jasper Newton 'Dude' Price is my Great-Great-Grandfather. He enlisted as a Private on September 24, 1864. Pension records show he was in Richmond, Virginia, hospital with typhoid fever, March 1865, to close of war. (Born in Washington County, Georgia December 1847.)

Leaston D. Spence is my 3rd Great-grandfather. He is the son of Bluford Thorpe Spence and Carity Smith. He was born 1842 in Jefferson County, Ga and married Sarah Fortner. They had Obediah Silas Spence whom married Susie Flora Price. They had Eva DeBertha Spence whom married Henry Gilbert Simpson. They had Opal Inez Simpson whom married Benjamen Franklin Brown. They had Dan Edwin Brown, Sr., my father. Leaston D. Spence served Jan 1864 - Apr 1865. He was captured in a hospital at High Bridge, VA as POW 3 Apr 1865 and taken at Newport News. His Combined Service Record includes a card that notes him as having taken the oath 25 June 1865.

Enlisted March 4, 1862 at Swainsboro, Emanuel County, GA. Company H, McLoud Volunteers with his brother Gaston A. Kitchens and his cousins Asa L. Thompson and Dempsey Moore. Served in The Seven Days Campaign, Second Manassas, Antitem, Fredricksburg, and Chancellorsville. Killed in action July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. Gaston A. Kitchens survived the war. Dempsey Moore died in hospital, Richmond VA. Buried at Hollywood Cemetery.

Enlisted 3/4/1862 and died that same year. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

National Archive documents state he was on wounded furlough and sent home from August - Nov 12 1862. Present at Fredericksburg, wounded at Chancellorsvile. Present at Gettysburg. Captured Nov 30 1863 near Manassas during skirmish at Mine Run Va. Held prisoner at Old Capitol Prison, Washington DC until sent to Pt. Lookout prison in Maryland in Feb 1864. Exchanged Feb 1865, sent to Camp Lee, Va then to hospital in Richmond VA due to illness. Paroled at Augusta, GA May 1865. Records indicate he passed on May 1890. Several records show his name as John 'Jack' or John Jackson Stroud (not to be confused with his son James Jackson Stroud)

Asa Thompson was my great-grandfather's older brother. Born 1837. Enlisted 3/4/1862, died on 7/2/1863 at Gettysburg, PA.

RBT was my great-grandfather. Born 4/5/1843, died 12/5/1923. Enlisted 3/4/1862, wounded at 2nd Manassas 8/30/1862, captured at Fussel's Mill, VA, 8/17/1864. Imprisoned at Pt. Lookout, MD. Exchanged 3/14/1865 and paroled at Augusta, GA 5/18/1865.

Humphrey O. Pearre is my ancestor. I'm a member to the United Daughters of the Confederacy. I'm trying to get more indepth information on his Company's battle history. I also found a Joel C. Pearre in the same company so I'm trying to see if he's related to H.O. Pearre. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Beth

Wade enlisted on 4 March 1862 from Columbia County, Georgia.

Rev. William Hauser, M.D., was appointed Chaplain by the CSA Secretary of War on March 8, 1863. Rev. Hauser was also a surgeon and served in that position as well. Rev. Hauser was later well known for his gospel hymnals which he wrote using the shape note technique. He resigned his commission on 6 Feb 1864.
