George McDuffie Grubbs b. 22 December 1847 d. 26 January 1923

My ancestor died in 1875 supposedly from wounds he received in the Civil War. I've been unable to find records that indicate he was wounded, but he probably was due to all the action he took part in.

Enlisted as a 2nd Corporal in Company B, 6th State Troops Regiment Georgia on 22 October 1861 at the age of 17. Mustered out of Company B, 6th State Troops Regiment Georgia on 15 April 1862. Enlisted in Company A, 32nd Infantry Regiment Georgia on 18 April 1862. Wounded on 12 July 1863 at Charleston, SC. Surrendered on 26 April 1865 at Greensboro, NC.

Lexinton O. Pye was appointed 2nd Coporal of Company B of the 6th Regiment Georgia State Troops 22 Oct 1861. Roll dated 18 April 1862, last on file, showes him present. Mustered out April 1862. Enlisted as a private in Company A of the 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry 18 April 1862. Killed at Ocean Pond, Florida 20 February 1864. Was at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 5, 1863.

GG Grandfather, Born 1822 SC Died 1900, Meriwether Co. Ga Enlisted 2/1864 - surrenedered NC 1865

Daniel was About 24 years old from Talbot Co. Ga. He enlisted as Pvt. in Co B 32nd Georgia Infantry. His CSA gravestone is at Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery in Talbot Co Ga. I have not located his military records. A CSA flag graces his grave. He survived the war and died 31 Dec. 1926. Deo Vindice

Henry fought with his two brothers , John W and Robert Trussell. John W was killed near Ft sumter and Robert and Henry survived the war and are buried in Centerville cemetary in Talbot County, Ga. Henry induced as Private Aug 30, 1863. Surrender-ed, Greensboro, N.C. Apr 26, 1865.

John W Trussell enlisted as a private in Co D, 6th Regt Ga State Troops Dec 20, 1861 and earned a 50.00 bounty to sign up for three years or duration of the war. Mustered out at Savannah, Ga Apr 1862. Elected 2nd Lieutenant of Co B, 32nd Regt Ga Inf Apr 18, 1862; 1st Lieutenant Mar 5, 1863. John W was a school teacher in Talbot County Georgia and probably because he could read and write, he moved quickly up the ranks to 1st LT. In and around Charleston, he was in charge of building some of the trenches and earthworks. In April 1864 there are records where he was the Ordnance Officer for Harrison's Brigade and he ordered ammo and weapons for the unit. He also was assigned for a time to the Palmetto Armory.He fought at the battle of Olustee/Ocean pond and other battles with his brothers.He was killed in a fight, Nov 12 1864, by a union Parrot shell while at Fort Sumter. He is buried with two of his brothers, Robert and Henry Christopher, who survived the war, and are buried with him at the Centerville cemetery in Talbot County , Ga .Duty well done, may he rest in peace.

Robert served until the end of the war and is buried, in Talbot Co Ga at the centerville cemetary with his two CSA soldiers/ brothers. He served with his brothers, John W Trussel and Henry Christopher Trussell. His bother John W was killed in action around Ft Sumter. Robert enlisted as a private in Co D, 6th Regt Ga State Troops Dec 20, 1861. Roll for Apr 16, 1862, last on file, shows him present. Mustered out at Savannah, Ga Apr 1862. Appointed 3rd Corporal of Co B, 32nd Regt Ga Inf Apr 18, 1862; 1st Corporal in 1864. Surrendered, Greensboro, N.C. Apr 26, 1865. (Born in Talbot Co Feb 4, 1843.)

William Elisha Phelps b. Nov. 1, 1828 in Pulaski Co. GA. He was the eldest of 10 children born to Arthur and Lucinda Evans Phelps. Before the War Between the States, William moved from Pulaski Co. to then Baker Co, now Mitchell Co. GA. There he married Mary Jane Crosby, on April 9, 1857. William served with Co. D, 32nd Regiment GA Infantry, CSA. After the war, he moved to then Berrien now Cook County, GA and after several years returned to Mitchell Co. where he passeed away on Feb. 26, 1896. A Confederate Iron Cross and Headstone Dedication in honor of Private William Elisha Phelps was held on Sat. Sept 7, 1996, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell Co. GA. Children of William Elisha Phelps: Joseph Arthur, William Monroe, Mitchell Wilcox, Lucinda Virginia, Callie Jane, Mary Elizabeth, Louisa Lee, King David, Laura Viola, Cynthia Evans, Susannah Vesta, Sallie Camilla.

Enlisted November 1st 1862 at Savannah Georgia. He was born and raised in Taylor County, Butler Georgia. Fought in engagements at Battery Wagner, Olustee. Waynesborough and Honey Hill. Served in the defense of Savannah and the North Carolina Campaign. Captured March 17th 1865 at Averysboro N.C. by Hookers Corps. Sent to Point Lookout Maryland as a prisoner of war. Paroled and released June 24th 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance. Died in Louisville Kentucky June 13th 1929. He is buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery in Cincinnati Ohio. He was my Great Grand Father and never forgave the Union for the War of Northern Aggression.

I am not related. I located his grave site, though. He rests just outside of Unincorporated Carnegie, GA - just south of Cuthbert, GA.

Nathaniel Garland Rice, age 29, enlisted as a Private 16 Oct 1861 in Company C, 5th State Troops Regiment Georgia, which was organized in Clay County, Georgia, and was known as the 'Jeff Davis Guards.' He mustered out of this regiment and joined Company F, 32nd Infantry Regiment Georgia on 07 May 1862. At that time he was promoted to 5th Sergeant. He had two brothers, both of which fought in Georgia infantry regiments. One brother died in a Virginia field hospital following the battle of Sharpsburg/Antietam. The other brother served for the full duration of the war; his regiment was with the Army of Northern Virginia at the surrender at Appomattox in April 1865. He served for the full duration of the war and was awarded a pension by the State of Texas in 1900.

Enlisted May 7, 1862 at Savannah, GA. Was transferred to 1st Battalion of GA Sharpshooters by Special order on July 30, 1862. Served three years. Rank in: Private, Rank out: Private. This is my 4x Great-Grandfather. After the war he made his way to Alabama, married and had a family. He died in 1920 in Alabama and is buried in Geneva County, Alabama. NARA microfilm M266, Roll 411

Charles R. Gaston , Jasper Co Ga, joined April 25, 1861 wounded and captured at Winchester VA, Sept 1864 Exchanged at Pt. Lookout January 17, 1865. His brother Thomas joined May 1861 died April 1865 on retreat from Richmond.

W. D. and his younger brother, George, took part in the Civil war, both serving in the Thirty-second Georgia Regiment, under Colonel Harrison. W. D., served as a private throughout the entire war, and at the engagement at Ocean Pond, Florida was severely injured by the falling of a tree. 'Smith, William D. private May 7, 1862. Enlisted in Company G, 32nd Infantry Regiment Georgia on 07 May 1862. Sick in Georgia Hospital at Savannah, Georgia. September 30, 1862. No later record.' Gillium Trull enlisted in Company G 32nd Georgia Infantry on October 5th 1861. He died on June 15, 1863 at Confederate Hospital #1 in Savanna Georgia it is believed he died from either wounds or disease. Gillium was born in 1824 in Emanuel County Georgia. He married Caroline Rowland from emanuel county georgia in 1852.

Great great great grandfather, one of four brothers that fought for the C.S.A. from the State of Georgia. Samuel now rests in Navarro County ,Texas. He passed in 1904 .
