Stephen was the younger brother of Lt Col Thomas Coke Glover.

Thomas Coke Glover was a successful surgeon practicing medicine in Campbell, Georgia. When the call to arms came, he chose to fight rather than serve as a surgeon. He was responsible for the formation of Company A 21st Georgia and was elected a major, and company commander. His unit was assigned to the Army of Northern Virginia, where he led his company in over 100 battles. He received command of the 21st Georgia Regiment during the battle of Antietam, but only a short time later was severely wounded leading his men in the battle at Mumma's farm. A description of the event can be read in John M. Priest's book 'ANTIETAM---The Soldiers' Battle.' Lt. Col. Glover was later mortally wounded in the third battle of Winchester, VA, and is buried in the Confederate Section of Mount Hebron Church Cemetery in Winchester, VA.

Discharged at Rappahannock,Virginia,March,1862,on account of a spinal sickness.J.J.Milford was later a baptist preacher.He was the oldest of the Milford Brothers.

Died at Chimborazo Hospital on Feb.25,1862 from bronchitas.

Born around 1839 in Georgia to James L. and Jane L. Tucker. Living with his parents in Polk County, Georgia in 1860. Crossed the county line to Floyd County to enlist in Company B, 21st georgia Infantry in June 1861. Appointed First Sergeant in August 1862; later Regimental Color Sergeant and Second Lieutenant in 1862; 1st Lieutenant in Janaury 1863; Captain in December 1864. Due to a shortage of officers in the 44th Georgia, he was detailed to command the 44th Georgia during the Appomattox Campaign and surrendered with the regiment at Appomattox. Lived after the war in Polk County. Married widow Mary J. Lyon in 1870. Died of a stroke or heart attack while watching his house burn down April 17, 1901. Buried on the 'old Tucker homeplace burying ground' near the Lake community according to his obituary.

James Van Bobo was killed 21 Aug 1864 during part of Battle of Charles Town, West Virginia.

'This company was formed of men transferred from Captain Jesse Burtz's Company (Cherokee Georgia Mountaineers) which was divided by S. O. No. 163, A.&I.G.O. dated 26 SEP 1861. It afterward became Company D, 21st Battalion, North Carolina Infantry. Being composed of men from Georgia, it was subsequently transferred to the 21st Regiment, Georgia Infantry by S. O. No. 84, A.&I.G.O. dated 11 APR 1864 and became (New) Company E of that regiment.'

John W. SHOEMAKER enrolled on 22 JUL 1861 at Concord, Dawson County, Georgia in Captain Smith's Company, Independent Regiment, Wise Legion. As noted above, this company evolved into Company D, 2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry. The entire company was captured at Roanoke Island, North Carolina on 8 FEB 1862. The POWs, including John, were released as paroled prisoners of war at Elizabeth City, North Carolina on 21 FEB 1862. This release on parole predates the Dix-Hill Cartel signed between the two War Departments on 22 JUL 1862, but these men were eventually declared exchanged and returned to duty after several months at home.

The 2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry was engaged at Gettysburg in July 1863. John W. SHOEMAKER was captured during the retreat at Waterloo, Pennsylvania on 5 JUL 1863. He was sent to Fort McHenry and forwarded to Fort Delaware on 9 JUL 1863 probably arriving the next day. John was transferred from Fort Delaware to Point Lookout on 18 OCT 1863 (his Point Lookout record shows him arriving 15 OCT 63, so one of these records was copied in error). He remained at Point Lookout from October 1863 until 13 FEB 1865 when he was paroled for a 'humanitarian' exchange, and delivered to Confederate authorities at Coxes Landing on the James River near Richmond in the two day period 14/15 FEB 1865. There were 2,051 paroled Confederate POWs delivered from Point Lookout over this two day period.

The final record in John's file shows that he was present at Camp Lee (a camp for paroled and exchanged prisoners in Richmond) on 17 FEB 1865. Only 7 officers and 50 men were surrendered in April 1865 and John W. SHOEMAKER was not documented as being one of them. This suggests that he may have been furloughed home or perhaps he just went home on his own initiative. The primary condition for being selected for these 'humanitarian' releases was that a Union army surgeon examine the men and only those deemed 'likely to be unfit for at least 60 days' were selected for delivery. Most of those delivered were examined in the Receiving & Wayside Hospital (G. H. No. 9) at Richmond and distributed to Richmond area hospitals for further treatment as needed. There is no hospital record in John's file, so he may have been deemed fit for duty by Confederate authorities.

He was captured at Roanoke Island, North Carolina on February 8, 1862. He was later paroled at Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Private Drury Meeks Walls was born on 19 December 1843 in Forsyth County, GA. He enlisted in Company D, 2nd Regiment North Carolina Infatry on 28 Nov 1861 and fought with this regiment until his capture at Gettysburg on July 4, 1863. He was exchanged on July 18 and returned to his unit and fought until he was again captured and sent to Point Lookout POW camp in October 1863. He was agin exchanged and returned to his until until his transfer to Company E, 21st Regiment, Georgia Infantry on 11 Apr 1864. He fought with this unit through the remainder of the war until their surrender at Appomattox. His father, Nace Walls, served as a Private in Company E, 24th Regiment Georgia Infantry. He died on 26 November 1900 in Gainesville, GA. He was married to Martha Louisa Gillespie and had five children: John Wesley, Emery J, Drury M, Martha, and Sara A.

Born in 1830 in Clark County, Georgia to Levi and Nancy (Price) Akridge, John was listed as a blacksmith on the 1860 census of Chattooga County, Georgia. He raised Company K of the 21st Georgia Volunteers, Army of Northern Virginia. In August of 1862 he was wounded at Second Manassas. Again wounded May 1, 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia. He was considered the 'ole man' of the unit and apparently had a firey temper but was a excellent leader and well respected. May 16, 1864 he was again wounded at Drewery Bluff, Virginia and died of his wounds May 23, 1864. John never married and I have yet to be able to locate his final resting place.

Andrew Jackson Harp (A.J. Harp)entered the CSA Georga 21st Infantry in June 1861. He fought with distinction through out the war. He was severly wounded at Sharpsburg, Maryland (Antitem). He received medical treatment in the unit by fellow soldiers. Ordinary medical care was not available due to high number of casulties from this battle. He remained with his unit throughout the war and was mustered out at Appomattox, Virginia. He walked home to Dooly County Georgia from Virginia. He lived the remainder of his life in Dooly County and is buried there.

Enlisted as a Private on 24 September 1863 at the age of 28.
Killed on 18 April 1864 at Plymouth, NC.

Enlisted 28 Aug 1861. KIA Chancellorsville, VA 3 May 1863.

He is sometimes listed as Jonathan J. Taylor, but his real name was James J. Taylor. He fought admirably for three years but was killed at the 2d Battle of Drewry's Bluff on May 16th, 1864.
