John V Bobo - Private
|
John V. Bobo was captured in September 1864, transferred to Louisville, KY and thence to Camp Douglas, IL. In Mar/Apr 1865, he 'volunteered' for service with Union Cavalry, being sent to Camp Kearney, Nebraska Territory to relieve other Union units for service against the Confederacy, but by August 1865, he was mustered out of service as a deserter. Probably, he simply went home. Camp Douglas, IL was notorious for death, disease, extreme unsanitary conditions, and corruption. He died in 1902 in Shelby County, Texas.

He was a doctor (dentist I believe). He was only in for one year (1862-1863) before being discharged due to rheumatism, which limited his ability to do his duties. He was eventually chased out of GA to Alabama by Gen. Sherman's invading troops. He was my great, great, great grandfather. DEO VINDICIE!
