The pension records state his name as ''Isam'' and that is not correct. His real name is Isom (pronounced ''eye-some''). He is one of three brothers that served in the 2nd FL. Cav. and he is one of my Great-Great Granduncles. The 2nd FL. Cav. is credited with having played a critical role in the Southern victory at the Battle of Olustee (Olustee, FL) in support of the 1st FL. Infantry Regiment and the Georgia Volunteers. The purpose of the Southern action as ordered by FL. Governor Morgan and Gen. Beauregard was to stop the advance of Federal forces from the occupied city of Jacksonville, FL. that were attempting to capture the Olustee railroad station and cut off the supply of cattle (beef) to the Confederate Armies of Northern Virginia and Tennessee. The cattle were driven from Ft. Myers to Olustee and transported by rail to the Southern armies. If Isom or his brothers'' ranks and companies are known, please let me know. Thanks. I am posting his brothers also.

This is my Gr-Gr-Granddad who mustered into the 2nd Florida Cavalry Co. 'A' (Miltons Dragoons) from Calhoun Co., Florida. He was given one special mission for procuring rations. He also received extra pay for the use of his personal horse and saddle. His death in 1867 after the war is still a mystery. Some have reported that he was taken by Union troops after the war and charged and convicted for war crimes. It is reported that he took a group of captured Union soldiers and executed them by firing squad. It is rumored by family history that he was hung for this act. I have not been able to confirm this as yet.
